The last panel should prove that Calvin’s parents only think of Hobbes as only a stuffed toy.

Aww, Calvin looks scared and devastated. I’ve never seen this arc. Bill Watterson did a fantastic job. I felt scared for the his parents and for Calvin and Hobbes.

I bet there was a girl in the burglar team, and Hobbes just eloped with her

This may be too “normal”. But maybe someone who knew the neighborhood was just waiting for somebody to go on vacation. Calvin and family unfortunately qualified.

He’s even MORE trusting if there’s a tuna sandwich in it for him.

This is one of the few times when Calvin’s mom is actually sympathetic towards Calvin’s feeling about Hobbes. (For the record, I’ve never belittled my girls’ “relationships” with their favorite stuffies.)

Cal would feel the same if Hobbes had been lost on a trip or if he had somehow forgotten him while playing in the woods. After all, Hobbes is his alter ego, mentor, and best friend for years.

Have you even checked your room, Calvin? Furthermore, why are you worried about a stuffed tiger at a time like this?!

It’s alright Calvin, the burglars were going to steal Hobbes until he gave them the “Eye of the Tiger” glare.

Hobbes is probably sleeping under the bed.

I remember this strip from way back.

Forget the break-in and what valuables are missing… Find Hobbes !!

I like that the Mom paid attention to Calvin’s panic amid her own distress. Also taking him seriously even though it’s just a stuffed toy (to her).

Things are never as important as good friends. And a beloved pet.

If I remember correctly, he’s under your bed Calvin!

If Calvin didn’t leave Hobbes behind, he’d think it’s exciting their house was broken into.

…or the thieves thought that the stuffed tiger was a secret safe for jewelry….there have been enough news stories about burglars vandalizing homes, and eviscerating stuffies…

This is heartbreaking. And his parents don’t even understand how important Hobbes is.

The drawings here are wonderfully done. The first panel would have been especially difficult.

This is the definition of good parenting. Totally freaked out because her house was burglarized, but calmly goes to help her son feel safe and secure.

What a great mom.

Calvin is crying for his lost friend. My heart is breaking for him.

I’m reading this and I’m reading the old comics too. I was excited but in one of the old comics I found this same arc, as well as arcs previous. I won’t spoil it for anyone tho. It’s in 1989.

I’ve always found this sequence quite moving. Calvin is quite worried for the friend that only he knows, and he ain’t kidding!
