Only Uncle Thomas was appointed by a majority president. Only briefly in our history was a majority of five appointed by two minority presidents, yet it’s been three years this time.
Despite the House finding Trump an insurrectionist in their 2nd impeachment of him, the SC doesn’t seem to have read up on that historical fact and didn’t consider it.
I love how all of the right wing cartoonists are overlooking the fact it was a 9-0 decision. Just goes to show they are incapable of accepting reality.
Whenever you feel like the verdict was wrong, think about it as if it were the person you back. It was the logical, constitutional, and correct decision. States should not be able to ban anyone from the election, even if he is accused in a crime. Even if he has been found guilty of fraud and sexual assault. The people of the USA have to be the ones to refuse to vote for a person, and no one should not be allowed that right, even if they, by some twisted logic, choose to vote for the most vile public figure in American history. And, Trump hasn’t actually gained anything. Do you in your wildest dreams think that any of the states that were able to get him off the ballot were going to vote for him anyway?
However, from any perspective, no one can be immune from prosecution for whatever they choose to do. If the Supremes rule that Trump is immune, Biden could simply order a hit on him and eliminate the problem. Works both ways, though, and I have absolutely no doubt that Trump would do it.
What kind of autocrat thinks that saying that a person cannot be banned without being convicted of a crime is some sort of sign of corruption of the court? Corruption is banning a person who has not been convicted. Apparently, assumption of innocence is a thing of the past and now courts can just punish people without a trial.
The fact that so many Americans are in favor of such autocratic behavior is a sign that our freedom will not last long. I will not be surprised if democrats insist that Biden remain in office even if he loses the election.
“Responsibility for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates rests with Congress and not the states,”
In the real world of MAGAs holding Congress captive, it means, an insurrectionist will never be prevented from holding federal office. Oh happy, happy, joy, joy
The three liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson, issued an opinion concurring with the judgment, but said the court went too far in dictating “novel rules” for federal enforcement of Section 3, saying SCOTUS had “insulated” itself from interpreting the clear text in the Constitution, purely for the benefit of one candidate.
In effect, SCOTUS removed an enforcement mechanism, and in letting tЯц☭p off the hook, failed to meet the moment. But it is clear that he led the January 6th insurrection, and now it will be up to the American people to ensure accountability. The creep could lose by 15 million votes, but “win” by all the nefarious right-wing attacks on voting and counting and assertions of non-existent “fraud” in the so-called “battleground” states.

What a joke that you can’t even root out corruption in your highest court.

Those six are in the bag for Trump.
They are doing all they can to prevent Trump from ever going to trial.

I thought it was a unanimous decision. Oh, that’s right, facts don’t matter, just feelings.
