They’ll make it up with extra belly rubs and treats when they return home.

The big things are often the little things. Don’t take your things for granted.

In our house, it’s good boy and girl waits (two girls and three little boys)…

So I guess you don’t have to be a good boy. Chew up his slippers.

The little doggie I take care of sleeps in her bed on a corner of mine. I always pet her and say “Good night, little doggie. Sleep well.” One night, I forgot to say it. She watched me with laser focus (like “hey, you forgot something”) until I remembered. Then I said it, and she curled up and went to sleep.

If I don’t give my cats a good night kiss before bed, they will cry in the stairwell until I do.

Is “Good-boy-waits” something that people say? What does it mean?

Never mess with a dog’s routine! Mine will stare at me with a look that her heart is broken if I am one minute late for a meal or treat for her. Ditto bed time. I have a saying I developed years ago – “bedtime for poopers!” (loudly enough to wake them up) and my last two dogs would get up and run to bed, but this one will pretend she doesn’t hear anything, wait for me to get ready to get in bed, and then she magically shows up. I don’t know how she does that. Well, she actually doesn’t hear me unless I get fairly loud, so now I also grab her blanket away from her, gently, while I say it. Dogs need routine to feel comfortable, so if they are used to it, don’t stop!
