Those who have studied authoritarianism, including Bob Altemeyer, John Dean, et al., have concluded that somewhere between one quarter to one third of all people are by nature “authoritarian followers.” The personal responsibility that perforce comes with true freedom deeply discomfits follower types. They crave an über-confident strongman leader who will banish all uncertainty. Religion often supplies such unreal certainty, and when religion partners-up with politics, a brutal tyranny is often the result. For the details, see Bob Altemeyer: Https://theauthoritarians.Org/

If we don’t stop allowing Gerrymandering, get rid of the Electoral College and stop making it difficult for people to vote……that is where we are headed!!!!!

There is a novel by that very title It Can’t Happen Here written by Sinclair Lewis. It’s not one of his best works, but it’s a decent read and a fast one.

The Trump dictatorship (from a Washington Post article)

“Trump benefits from dysfunction because he is the one who offers a simple answer: him. In this election, only one candidate is running on the platform of using unprecedented power to get things done, to hell with the rules. And a growing number of Americans claim to want that, in both parties. Trump is running against the system. Biden is the living embodiment of the system. Advantage: Trump.

A court system that could not control Trump as a private individual is not going to control him better when he is president of the United States and appointing his own attorney general and all the other top officials at the Justice Department. Think of the power of a man who gets himself elected president despite indictments, courtroom appearances, and perhaps even conviction. Would he even obey a directive of the Supreme Court?

Will a future Congress stop him? Presidents can accomplish a lot these days without congressional approval, as even Barack Obama showed. The one check Congress has on a rogue president, namely, impeachment and conviction, has already proved all but impossible — even when Trump was out of office and wielded modest institutional power over his party.

If most Americans can go about their daily business, they might not care, just as many Russians and Hungarians do not care.

Will those who balked at resisting Trump when the risk was merely political oblivion suddenly discover their courage when the cost might be the ruin of themselves and one’s family?"

If the left is complaining about the other side becoming a dictatorship, then you know it’s what the left is up to.

You commies really make me laugh. We already have a dictator in the WH. How else do you explain Executive Orders concerning cancelling student loans, gun control, abortion, police control, climate change, EV’s, etc. I always love it when Biden’s comments come back to haunt him…BIDEN IN 2020: You can’t legislate by executive order “unless you’re a dictator!”JOHN KERRY LAST WEEK: “The president is issuing executive orders” to impose his climate agenda.

’We’re past dog whistling’: Former prosecutor calls out Trump’s ‘appeals to racism’

Trump’s crony and longtime attorney Rudy Giuliani wasn’t subtle about the racist overtones when he smeared the reputations of Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shay Moss, in the fallout of the 2020 presidential election, according to Joyce Vance.

Vance appeared on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Ali Velshi to discuss the responsibility that the former New York City mayor and former federal prosecutor like her has when it comes to defamation.

’He’s crazy’: Morning Joe piles on Giuliani as he’s poised to be slammed for millions

Kicking off Friday morning, “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough ridiculed the defense former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer presented in their closing statement in the Georgia poll worker defamation lawsuit trial, with Scarborough agreeing with the attorney’s contention that his client is deluded. With Giuliani expected to see damages approaching $40 million going to Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, over accusations they committed voter fraud, Scarborough laughed that the best defense Giuliani’s lawyer could offer was “He’s crazy.”

Rudy, Trump and Fox tried to steal our election with scurrilous lies they still being sued for.

‘Put the brakes on’: GOP leaders testify about what they knew about fake elector plot

Republican Party leaders who served in 2020 offered their accounts in court Thursday of what they knew prior to 16 individuals signing and submitting false electoral votes for former President Donald Trump, who lost the presidential election that year. Wednesday’s and Thursday’s proceedings in Lansing were held for the cases against Michigan GOP National Committeewoman Kathleen Berden, Amy Faccihinello, Mari-Ann Henry, John Haggard, Michele Lundgren and former Michigan GOP Co-chair Meshawn Maddock. There are nine others facing charges.

Trump campaign linked to fake electors by Michigan Republicans testifying in court

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign on Thursday was linked directly to the so-called “false electors” scheme, which was allegedly part of the former president’s effort to subvert the 2020 election.Trump, who is currently battling criminal cases in connection with his actions surrounding the election that Joe Biden won, has previously been accused of knowing about the overall legal strategies of his team of election lawyers who sought to keep the ex-president in power.

‘Trump isn’t going to win’: Analyst makes case that major ‘MAGA defeat’ is a certainty

Buried deep in an analysis of all of the reasons why Donald Trump will go down to defeat against President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, a columnist suggested that history is not on his side and that the MAGA movement is winding down.Writing for the Atlantic, Hussein Ibish of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington explained that there are multiple roadblocks that will deny Trump a second presidency, including his extensive list of criminal trials that are casting a cloud over his campaign, his disparaging comments about the military that are resurfacing, and the fact that he is not the man he was in 2016 when he won his surprising victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
