I’m reading Rachel Maddow’s new book, Prequel, about how fascism was occurring back in the 30’s and on (aided by plenty of Americans). It’s chilling. And you can’t read it without thinking about trump and his minions. I fear for the future, especially if he becomes President again.
If Mike is really serious, he needs mental help immediately. Most of us find government and politics mildly annoying and not worth getting an ulcer or a stroke over. Frankly all that an election determines for me is how I will be mistreated.
Actually the four horsemen should be just one racing against democracy. It’s winner take all, and it’s time for the entire electorate to realize it and stop complaining or wasting votes on third parties. Any other system, especially proprotional representation, just causes unstable governments. It was one of the reasons Hitler was able to destroy the Weimar Republic.
For about the last century, the age of mass media, just about every presidential election is breathlessly presented as an existential crisis for our Constitutional democracy. This time the hype is matched by the reality.
If you ever wondered how it was that such violent, vicious, evil force as the National Socialist Party came to power in interwar Germany, then all you have to do is examine what’s happening with the GOP and in the US right now — and for the past 40-odd years.
These democrats are not hiding who they are. The democrat voters in New York openly ran and voted in a candidate who promised to go after their political opponent.
They have literally gone after Trump for taking out a loan and paying it back.
That is who these people are. The voters and the politicians.
The next 12 months are going to be a hoot. The Left screaming at the top of their lungs about the death of democracy, all the while doing their best to destroy their opponents by any means possible. Cattle Cars are coming, who will be loaded is yet to be determined. Someone better learn how to defend themselves quick.
Old recluse would normally be somewhat correct, except that his election will determine the future of our form of government and this cartoon is accurate: democracy is fighting to win over all the forms of government Trump and the GOP are working to install. They finally have a packed SCOTUS, bought and paid for. They have the house. Now they just need to claw back the Senate and get the useful fool back in the White House.
There is nothing wrong with artificial intelligence, the republicans have been using it for decades, just listen to trump’s rally speeches and the new dump a— speaker of the house Mike RedNeck Johnson wants to impeach our wonderful President Joe Biden with no real evidence that he has done anything wrong and everything right

Harvard professors Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky are Harvard poli-sci professors who authored the award-winning 2018 book How Democracies Die. For a sobering overview of the current parlous state of our democracy (saved from being totally depressing only by the prescription for fixing it in the final chapter), I cannot recommend strongly enuf their latest book, Tyranny of the Minority, which lays out a case for holding the US Constitution (acknowledged from the outset as an imperfect document riddled with compromises for the sake of holding a fledgling nation together) in considerably less reverence than it’s usually accorded in American society. They lay out a series of pro-democracy steps that are long overdue in the US, and quite a few of them require Constitutional amendments. As they point out, none of them will happen if we don’t start talking about them and making them a running part of the national discourse.
But of course no amount of discourse will matter at all if the fascists succeed in taking control of the levers of power in 2024.

Democracy will save the day. I think it would be beneficial to support ranked voting. the electoral votes seem to be corruptible.

All those weapons being carried will be used to try to trip the horse Democracy is riding on. Cheating to win is a huge part of their game plan.

Take Democracy out of that race and you have the Trump/MAGA/GOP election and governance strategy

The 2024 presidential election may well be the most important election in the history of the U.S.

IF this country allows itself to fall into a dictatorship, then our future will be no better than the Balkan states, or Germany in the 1930’s!!

May this not happen.
