    It had NOTHING to do with a variety of choices… and everything to do with choosing one that the orange mistake would accept AND that seemed moderate enough for the “moderate” Republicans. That’s harder than it might appear because Cheeto wouldn’t accept anyone who didn’t support his specious claim of election fraud.

    I thought it telling that TFG didn’t endorse him as he had the other previous losers. Somebody finally realized that TFG’s endorsement is the kiss of death. So TFG specifically did NOT – and Johnson was in.

    ’Sound realistic?

    I’ve posted this comment a few times already, but in my opinion, the House has gone from not being able to move legislation because there was no Speaker, to not being able to move legislation because of who they chose to be Speaker. There’s no way the Senate will approve of any the idiotic bills that will be sent to them by the Crazy Caucus.

    This panel is purely political but also resonates in another way with me.

    60 years ago I had a choice of half a dozen drugstore and department store cafés and restaurants that served good food, had friendly staffs, and reasonable prices. Not so for the last 4 decades. Too bad. Current boxes with drive through windows, hard waiting room seating, and one server behind a counter just don’t carry that same comfortable feeling. Sort of takes the ‘neighborly’ out of the day. [Repeating my comment on Stahler’s Moderately Confused today}

    “The Illusion of Choice” a Ted Talk by Barry Schwartz nicely addresses this topic.

    Trump selected his choice for Speaker. The rest of the Party complied. It’s not that complicated.

    Basically the entire House GOP are election deniers. When it came time for a vote, they chose, to a person, to side with Trump. I do not hear their words, I only count their vote.

    I heard a good term to describe those who capitulated (a fancy word for “chickened out”) to the will of the MAGAs: “Political Windsock.” They can change direction faster than a weathervane caught in a tornado. Some of the most dependable politicians: they can be counted upon to always act in their own best interests.

    A row of junk/fast food joints would’ve been more appropriate for this observation.

    Choosing a Republican speaker is like choosing a restaurant, but your choices are Botulism Bistro, E coli Steakhouse and a McPtomaine’s on every corner.
