So many reasons

Why do they have candy in their house?

I have lots of candy in my house for my grandkids. I put it in a Chinese puzzle box that takes five steps to open. They don’t get much.

Bribery?

I saw that one coming from a mile away.

What? Kids will love you for candy. No Way!!

Actually though I’m sure Nelson loves candy and Earl is no doubt more generous with it, I do think it’s more than that! Earl is often shown talking, laughing, teaching and playing with Nelson whereas I don’t think we’ve ever seen Opal playing with him, the only times she’s laughing with him is when she’s making fun of Earl and she’s often shown telling him to wash his hands, turn off the TV, pick up his shoes/toys/whatever and other things little boys don’t like doing. Plus she has at times been a bit mean to him, like when he accidentally dropped and shattered a geode he was very proud of and was very sad about it, Opal’s unsympathetic response was to tell him to get over it. (Apologies for any mistakes, I’m literally falling asleep!)

Well, DUH.

It’s a mystery!

Spoken from experience: this is a mighty good way, Gampas install a unhealthy eating disorder in their grandkids. Or at least help a lot to develop one.

PS our sons are in their early 50’s and, while one has finally learned to take a pass on sugar stuff, we still have to ‘protect’ the younger by arranging pantry shelves to mask sugar snacks. He knows better than to snoop. : )

Because he knows how to be nice and spoil grandkids instead of being a crotchety old fuddy duddy

Grandpa, having been a little boy himself once, knows what they like.

mmmmm- candy! (homer simpson) remember the big Brachs pick – mix display? my fav was the fruit nougats! every piece was wrapped! good ol’ days, eh?

Remember the Grandparent Rule: Buy them presents, feed them sweets, send them home. Works pretty well.

Boys tend to gravitate to the male adult like grandpas. And yes, candy and a Harley helps that.

Nelson also understands that Earl is a much nicer person compared to Opal.

This grandpa’s secret is part of my “Circle of Life” method for staying forever young. I have never hesitated too much about playing and interacting with my grandchildren, especially when they infants/toddlers. All that interaction, allows me to drains some of their youth for myself. 16 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter later, I do not look near my age of 60.

I heard my grandpa used to use cookies to get kids to like him.

Nana buys all of them shoes, sometimes multiple times a year.

I remember the Christmas ribbon candy every Christmas. My grandpa would have, especially during the summer, popcorn or peanuts to shell and eat.
