Poor Rose. Helicopter parents much?

Back when i was a kid, summer school included activities for those who were doing well, not just for those having problems with subjects.

Do vampires count as people?

Goths too, as Sarah’s Scribbles reminds us today.

In the past Rose has talked about all her various classes/lessons she has and enjoyed them all for the most part. She suddenly has too much unstructured time??

Back in the 70’s, we actually had a nice, comfortably long (if not numb) summer vacation. Now, it seems, not so much…

It’s not ending, Rose. It’s just a pause.

Does the kid with the helicopter beanie in the first panel look like he has a mustache?

Let’s see – summer book-reading programs for the mind and little league, city swimming pools, and outdoor activities for the body… wait, that was decades ago before we “progressed” …

That yellow summer sky panel brings back all sorts of last-day-of-school memories. I don’t know if anything will ever feel quite the same way. When the year’s final bell rang, it was like time itself stood still for the briefest and sweetest of moments.

When I was a kid 70 plus years ago, summer was for playing. There was no summer school. I had to be home when the street lights came on, my mother had no idea where I was ( or cared). Thirsty? We found a freshly watered lawn and sucked what water there was around the sprinkler head! Hungry, I made myself bread and sugar sandwiches. My mother was too busy reading to pay attention to what I was doing. And I was only 7 or 8!

Vampires aren’t people….

i don’t like sunshine, a bit or a lot, and I’m not even a vampire!

For kids who really hate school, you could beg them to move to a country that doesn’t put as much value on education and will give you jobs.

Does that third kid in panel one have a mustache? Poor guy’s been held back too long!
