I’ve loved GL since I was small when If You Could Read My Mind came out in the UK, and who could not adore Day-oh (The Banana Boat Song)?

I came across Gordon Lightfoot a little late, around 1972, when I listened to the “Don Quixote” album. I was hooked.

Love them both, but I’m wondering if you meant Harry Belafonte recorded 5 songs by Gordon Lightfoot, or with him?

I discovered the wonder that was Lightfoot when I first heard Black Day In July . I think my intro to Belafonte was when he sang Hole In The Bucket with Odetta.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Thanks, guys. My folks introduced me to Belafonte when I was very young (I loved his voice!) and I spent my teen years listening to (and singing) Lightfoot’s songs. They were both legends! Wonderful tribute.

Both icons in their own way. They will be missed, but their music is eternal.

Back in the 60s a buddy and I used to play chess at the Purple Onion Coffee House in Toronto’s Yorkville district. One night we had to pay a cover charge ‘cause they had this young kid on a bar stool playing guitar, Gord something

A few years later I working part time as a CBC announcer when CanCon (Canadian Content) was a big deal in broadcasting. So the dinner show had a lot of Anne Murray and Gord Lightfoot and very little Stompin’ Tom

I was lucky enough to see Lightfoot at the Hollywood Bowl. I enjoy the Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
