We seem to be stuck with him. And even if he fell off the boat and never returned, McConnell would work HARD to find a way to prevent Biden from appointing a replacement.
H W Bush’s longest-tenured blight on the republic, and probably his most cynical. Nominating this man to replace the late, great Thurgood Marshall, handing what was then the lone minority held seat on the Court to the antithesis of everything Justice Marshall stood for.
Wonder how much his master charges to rent him out, looked on the internet under ginny’s rates, and it said restricted: He claimed he was his own man or until ginny tells him otherwise.
Thing is thomas, like the entire repug party, has discovered the power of shamelessness. He can flaunt his corruption, laugh at those who criticize him and rest easy knowing nothing can be done about it.
I agree with Mr. McCracken’s comments. There have been some interesting fact/opinion pieces written that discuss how Justice Thomas has benefitted from every minority benefit program of the last 50 years and hates himself for it, that he hates being Black. The vacations should help ease the pain.
During his confirmation hearings, things were going badly because of Anita Hill’s testimony. He made an impassioned speech incorporating the Phrase that Pays: “This is a high-tech lynching!” And he was confirmed.
Any bets he might bring out the Phrase again now that he’s in similar hot water?
America is a tremendously diverse nation, but whom do we have on the Supreme Court? Still mostly men (5). Mainly white (7). Mainly non-Hispanic (8). Exclusively elites (4 Harvard Law, 4 Yale, 1 Notre Dame). Heavily Catholic (6, plus 1 Episcopalian raised Catholic, to go with the token Protestant and Jew; 0 atheists, 0 Muslims, 0 Hindus, 0 Buddhists, 0 Confucians, 0 Mormons, 0 Sikhs, and 0 pantheists). Mainly East Coasters (3 from New York, 2 from DC, 1 each from New Jersey and Georgia, the other 2 from Colorado and Louisiana). 0 rurals. 0 foreign-born. All (probably) straight. Mainly married (7 + 1 divorced). Almost all millionaires (8).
Obviously, they’re all intelligent, well educated, articulate, and able-bodied, which one can hardly hold against them (unless you’re Roman Hruska), but it diminishes their chances of being able to empathize with millions of Americans who aren’t.
I watched his confirmation hearings – watched the testimony of Ms. Hill, and knew from the start just exactly what kind of “judge” he was going to be – and I’ve never been disappointed in my assessment…
His billionaire friend, according to several reports, collects Nazi memorabilia, including a couple of paintings by Der Fuhrer. I wonder how Justice Thomas would feel if this same billionaire collected slavery mementos as well, or instead?

If Thomas thinks these were just gifts from a friend, he is not qualified to be a Justice.

We can complain – and we should – about the lack of integrity of so many of the recent nominees…Thomas was its earliest example on the current court.
