    Were the Uvalde police defunded?

It wasn’t the police that prevented the shooting. They only stopped the killer.

How about we fund whoever is going to STOP THE SHOOTING?

The two Nashville officers stood tall and did their jobs. Uvalde was a cluster of cowards. Not a matter of defunding.

Now, child, go talk to the Republican legislators who shrug at your fears, your safety, your deaths.

Please promise me that police won’t have to go up against people with military style weapons and children won’t be slaughtered by them because those things have been banned.

Stop lying about the defund idea. The whole point was to hire more mental health counselors ..

Mr. Kelley, using the murder of children to try to make your political point is contemptible.

No one will, Little Girl. No one has ever wanted that. Just bovine droppings from the Right. What is wanted are more resources for the police. Sending a 22 year old officer out to deal with a mental health issue is unfair to everyone involved.

I feel for the police these days. Yes, some are racists. Some are trigger happy and enjoy being brutal. But most are doing a tough job. The worst for them is that they are up against a population that is armed to the teeth with weapons equal or superior to theirs. Probably the thing that saves their lives is that the police have better training than these maniacs with guns.

Of course a police officer’s life would be better if they didn’t have to face so many armed people. If only there were something we could do about that…

Kudos to the Nashville police. When they reached a locked door, they didn’t dicker around for a key, they found a way around in a rapid manner. Fourteen minutes and it was over. No stopping for hand sanitizer.

As in most professions, 10% are exceptional, 10% are incompetent, 80% are adequate. Nashville police are exceptional. Uvalde police were incompetent with cowardice added in.

Absolutely crazy concept… but by putting forward preventative measures, you can stop horrible things like this from happening in the first place… in which case, SWAT teams won’t even need much funding.

Never defunded but definitely reformed and retrained would be a good start. Bad cops are expensive and infect their coworkers.

    @ Patrick Murphy:

Let’s say you walk onto my porch, and I suspect you’re up to no good. I greet you with a weapon in my hand and pointed towards you. I tell you to go away or I’ll shoot. You advance towards me. I shoot you dead.

I’m willing to bet you’d be behind me all the way if I was indicted for murder under those circumstances. I’m allowed to defend my property, right?

Same with Ms. Babbit. She was facing a loaded gun, and was warned not to advance. She advanced, and was shot. Same thing.

“Defund the police” was intended to point out the militarization of police departments while ignoring better solutions like using that money to have support people that could deal with potential suicides or other mental health issues. People like Kelley that use the term for political purposes are ignorant.

Nah, they’re too busy defunding and privatizing public education to worry about defunding the cops. And the cops are so worried about concealed weapons they’re inclined to shoot first. Just about always.

I very much doubt that a student at Robb Elementary School (Uvalde) would say that. Nor would it be said by the families and friends of people killed by SWAT teams busting into houses with everyone asleep, including the wrong houses.

A deranged democrat kills 3 innocent children, and 3 adults, and somehow this is the republican’s fault. No, this is a leftist problem, like so many before it.
