No, Rose Dearest, you are so not helping.

OK, what’s wrong with complimenting her hair? Gingers are awesome.

Perhaps Amelia should sanely try dying her hair a different color instead (fuchsia with turquoise and periwinkle streaks)?

Amelia – If you bring the battery charger, I’ll bring the electric shavers.

Amelia has issues… lots of them!

Well Rose, at least you tried.

It’s just that people have a hard time finding something else to compliment you on, Amelia. Your amiability? Your helpfulness? Your generally lovely personality? Nope.

A simple thank you is all that is required when someone pays you a compliment, not all out war….

But it’s still nice that you tried, Rose.

The younger you are, the less things you have in life to complain about. In adulthood, comments on hair will drop way down the list in importance.

No one ever complimented my hair until it turned silver. Now, every few weeks a total stranger will tell me I have beautiful hair. I love it even though I had nothing to do with it (except I refuse to have a little old lady haircut.) But I’m old enough to treasure compliments. Young people are self-conscious. I recall telling a friend (we were both young) that I liked her because she was fun to be around and she took it as an insult!!!

Shaving your head would get more comments as people would assume you had cancer.

I have a good friend, she’s well over 6ft tall. And, of course, everyone has to say something about her height. It has always been an issue for her. Especially since she’s very blond and very buxom.

I learned from her, no, you’re not being clever making those kind of comments.

To Mr. Henry, can we have more comics with Sterling’s weirdness?

Amelia, thy name is Chaos

Curiously we call that hair ‘red’ even though it’s orange, because there was no word for ‘orange’ at the time – that was just another color of red. Like robin red-breast, red pandas and the old term ‘red Indian’.

My wife, both daughters, and one of the cats are gingers. Life is grand, chaotic at times, but grand.

Being bald as an eagle isn’t fun either, Amelia.

Amelia, just wait until you grow up and the really interesting comments on your red hair start up!
