Two amazing founders who fought with each other for decades then reconciled. They died within hours of each other on July 4th 1826 – 50 years to the date of the founding of our great nation.
Principles are what need o be applied and the truth the goal. We should avoid partisan and tribal goals and support the actions required by truth based on our principles no matter WHAT person is responsible for a problem.
For instance, when Trump promotes the covid jab as safe and effective, he needs to be called out. When Biden mandate it, likewise.
If Trump and his son had actually been on the take from Russia, China and Ukraine like Biden and his son have been, both should be held accountable. In this case, Biden is getting away with the corruption and Trump faced false charges with all the Russia hoax and ukraine impeachment nonsense.
Heider’s balance theory proposes that Jefferson & Adams will always be pulled one way or the other way, seeking to measure their actions, views, and sentiments in order to balance out the mental discomfort that comes with agreeing [or disagreeing] about ideas with someone that they don’t [or do] like.
Cognitive dissonance / consonance theory is similar, with the personal relationship part set aside in favor of consistent and complimenting views.
Ideological purity tests put the scotch to all that. Everyone should probably have something that they won’t compromise on — thus the selective outrage.
Thomas, the born aristocrat, strongly favored more direct democracy. John, nurtured on New England town hall meetings, strongly preferred, um, quite the other thing.

There seems to be a greater issue with false equivalency.
