Fast forward 50 years to the grandpas of the future. Will they be smiling about the drag queen shows for kids? Burning the cities by fascists? Homeless camps and addicts shooting up on the streets?
I saw Pink Floyd on the DSOTM Tour in 1973 (Yeah, I’m old). Spectacular show. The first note played was the first beep of “Echoes” and it just got better from there. Also, it was insanely loud. I’ve been to countless rock concerts over the years. David Gilmour’s guitar solo in “Money” was the loudest thing I ever heard anywhere.
When I was in high school in the 1970’s I would sneak into my brothers room when I knew he would be gone for a while. He had a good stereo setup with headphones and I listened to Dark Side of the Moon over and over. I loved how one part was felt to be crossing the top of my head!
Been there. Done that. Got the tee-shirt. Especially the one that reads, “I may be old, but I saw all the really cool bands.” Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Who, Kiss, The Rolling Stones, the Starship when it was just Jefferson Airplane, Chicago, Credence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, et al. I even saw Elvis and Elvis’ comeback(s). Yes, I am that old. 8>)
My dear departed Jerri Lei’s favorite T-shirt: The iconic album cover prism on a solid black shirt with “There’s someone in my head but it’s not me” printed below.
1973, my buddy and I scored 7th row to see Pink Floyd expecting their published catalog. They led off with “One of These Days” (spectacular) and, without breaking, segued into new music no one had heard before, Dark Side of the Moon. The auditorium went crazy. The radio stations were babbling the next day. Rushed to the record store to buy the album. Yes, a grandpa minute I’ll never forget.
No they will be remembering the tens of millions killed when the republican fascist decided to overthrow the U.S. Republic for their corporate masters, didn’t we go through this with huey long, republicans don’t want books that point out they are repeating disasters history, and show the poor how the rich are screwing them over more so than the other minorities. Yep Sinclair Louis had it right in the 1930 when he focused on longs ambitions and tRump is just another dweeb wanting to sucker fools into following him.
Great cartoon. The album includes one of my all-time favorite songs, “Time”, with one of my all-time favorite verses (and an important reminder):
“And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinkingRacing around to come up behind you againThe sun is the same in a relative way but you’re olderShorter of breath and one day closer to death”
It’s on my playlist for my funeral services, along with “Always Look at the Bright Side of Life”.
God Bless Grampa! When I heard this a few days ago,I had to stop in my tracks-bought it (on VINYL,of course!),played it over and over, still enjoying it! Next to Neil Young’s Harvest, quite possibly the best album EVER! (Yes,I’m a now a senior child of the’70’s and proud of it!)
TDSOTM is a great album, too perfect, I still to prefer the most “human” ‘Meddle’. While I consider ‘Wish You Were Here’ hypocrite towards Syd Barrett.

It’s almosr 50 years since i first saw the Kinks live – February 1975, with a multimedia stage show supporting the album “A Soap Opera”.
I never missed them in Atlanta till their last live show in 1990 (?)

Be careful, Grandpa. Today’s marijuana is a lot stronger than the stuff you remember from 1973…

Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it’s all dark.

I don’t see any evidence that he sparked one up first, he’s not doing it right.

Don’t wear that shirt in Florida. Desantas may think you’re pushing a gay agenda.

I expect a steady parade of 50 year anniversaries of great LPs for the next few years. And liking it!

Conservatives/right wingers complained about the cover for the Pink Floyd 50th being woke
“A new Pink Floyd logo celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon has confused some less enlightened fans”
