Because night lights use power and cost money, which is hard to come by for the Social Security set.

If it is the same color as the toothbrush charging light, he might mistake her for the door to the bathroom.

My wife and I don’t have a problem with each other. But as for our dog that is a different matter. She will sleep during the night on her bed, in the hallway, in front of a doorway—you name it. We always have to be aware where she is. We do have a nightlight in the bathroom. Neither one of us can afford to trip and fall.

In our younger days, that happened to my wife and I. I was waiting for her to come out of the bathroom so I could go in. The lights were off. She came out, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She, however, did not go straight to the bed as I expected but crossed the room to close the blinds. We impacted. We both saw stars. That happened over 30 years ago and even today, in the dark we will announce where we are if we’re up and moving at the same time.

Neighbors have so many outside lights that, even with our blinds and drapes closed, there is never a danger of a collision anywhere in our home at night – except for the occasion toe-chair leg reunion.

A hundred years ago, in my youth I had one pair of chonies with a glow-in-the dark paisley motif. I had no idea how “glow-y” they were until one night shift at the hospital, a patient noted she could see me as soon as I entered her room. Stupid white uniforms!

Opal is a problem solver. Earl is a good source of problems.

    A perfect match.

I keep a nightlight in my bathroom to keep from bumping into things and to save on the hydro bill. I recently learned that using my nightlight is increasing my quality of sleep. I don’t like bright lights as a rule, at night especially, and; “Light exposure before or during bedtime can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep because your brain won’t make enough sleep-inducing melatonin. Even if you do manage to fall asleep with lights on in your bedroom, you may not get enough rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.”

As a fairly new ‘commenter’ but long-time reader, I find it fascinating and sometimes hilarious to read all the conversation sparked by a comic strip. We’re really a community here aren’t we? Love it! (Oh, and to weigh in as a new senior [who’s still 20 in his mind], I’m firmly in the camp of needing darkness and fan noise to sleep though oddly, I have no problem taking a mid-day nap and falling asleep despite the sunlight!)
