Joan: So, are your daughters speaking again?
Val: Yes.
Joan: What IS it about sisters? Any excuse for a FIGHT.
Joan: Well, we were just the same.
Val: Were NOT.
Joan: Were TOO!
Val: Were NOT.
Joan: Oooh...deja vu.
Val: Is NOT.
My sister and I are 2 years apart, but we’ve never gotten along. Now that I have 2 girls of my own, I am determined that they are friends even though they have different personalities, and they are (with the usual squabbles of course)
Mom NEVER let me and Ray argue, fight or stay mad at each other. She drilled it in our heads, “That’s your sister! What’s wrong with you!” “Take care of your sister, what are you doing?” Needless to say, she barely speaks to her brother!
I’m ten years older than my sister, and while obviously we weren’t close growing up, we’re now best friends–we talk for at least a few minutes nearly every day.
I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I’m in the middle. Very symmetrical family: G, B, G (me!), B, G. It was fun having lots of siblings, but being in the middle, I was too small to hang with the big kids and too big to want to hang with the little kids. Spent most of my time in a tree reading!
I’m just barely two years older than my sister, and we squabbled a lot and had some big issues as kids. Now we’re pretty good friends, although we’re not as close as we might be if we could spend more time together.
Wow, me too, kind-of. I am third out of 8 B,G,G(me),G,B,G,B,G If I would have been a boy it would have been very symmetrical. We had the 4 big kids and the 4 little kids because there were 2 years between number 4 and 5. The “little kids” still remind the “big kids” we had all of the advantages. Tent camping instead of RV. Lots of fun adventures they were “too little” for. We are all close in our own ways some more than others. We all live within an hour of Portland. We get together quite often. We have a major family event every 3 months not counting weddings and funerals. I would never trade a big family for a small.
My sister and I have a 4.5 year difference in ages, used to drive each other up the wall as kids, but get on brilliantly now despite the fact we’re as different as chalk and cheese! I used to regret not having a brother but now I couldn’t wish for a better sibling :-)
I’d trade my brother for a sister !!! My fondest wish would be that my best friend could be my sister. My bother lives an hour from me, and our Dad died a year ago. I was responsible then for my Dad and now my Mom as care giver. He has, since my Dad passed away been to see our Mother about 4 times! And don’t get me started on her two grandsons!! Whenever my Mom winds up in the ER from her Assisted Living or needs to go to a Doctors appointment its been all on me. So anyone who wants a sibling (you never had one), I will ship him to you!!!! Careful what you wish for!!
2 older sisters, 1 younger brother, 1 younger sister (10 yrs)
The four of us older kids were really close in age (5 1/2 yrs between oldest sister to brother) then my younger sister came along 7 1/2 years after him. As an adult I am closest to my youngest sister because we share the most interests, and similar neuroses :)
I’ve got two older sisters (I’m the youngest of 3 girls). As kids, we could be best friends one minute and fighting like demons the next, but now that we’re older I wouldn’t trade my Big Bird or Oscar the Grouch for anything.
my sister and I were born on the same day but 2 years apart, we always had to share birthdays together, but when she first came home from the hospital, I told my mom to send her back to where she came from!! LOL now you know which one is older…..

My parents waited too long to have my sister so we were never close. I envy Val and Joan.

Jfri, evidently your brother has some issues. I have a deep empathy for people like that. I can feel for them.
