I put a small, but industrial strength, shredder next to the table. It could just as easily be the bright blue recycling bin but that short aggressive grind of decisiveness feels empowering. But I check them for cash first.
That was the ex and my filing system for almost as long as we were married. Couldn’t do it when the kids were home as it was actually used to eat at and do homework (remember the old sitcoms when people actually did that? After that it’s been the go to place to dump things on. Sounds like I’m not alone…now i feel better :-)
We have one of those communal mailboxes. The people with the slot below ours often don’t pick up their mail for over a week. The bottom of our slot gets pushed up and I can access their mail if I want.
My mail these days are almost entirely requests for donations or offers for services like Medicare or hearing aids. Some for my email in-box, only exponentially increased.

Trash it all. They’ll get back to you if it was important.

Having a horizontal surface that is covered ONLY in mail is somewhat rare.
