I think it’s been done. Though maybe not between orange and red-green-white.
We have a couple of strings of LED tree lights that we don’t use: They just don’t have the right kind of sparkle. Unidirectional, I think. We prefer the little acorn lights with the two bent wires that push into the plastic sockets.
Just don’t expect any credit for it. University of Chicago statistics professor Stephen Stigler stated in his 1980 publication Stigler’s law of eponymy that no scientific discovery is named after its original discoverer. Fittingly, Stigler himself was not the first to make this observation.
You could just leave multiple strings of lights up all year, and just plug in the appropriate one for the season. Hey,,, I have a friend who does not put her christmas tree away. This would be a great idea for her.
Already a thing. I discovered this website last year. Been thinking about doing this when my current 3 year contract with the XMas light installers is up. https://jellyfishlighting.com/
There was a guy who had them in my neighborhood. They had every conceivable holiday color combination you could think of, even Mardi Gras. Around St. Patrick’s Day, he got tired of them and took ‘em down…
We always ask ourselves if we want to do lights again this year. We waffle through Thanksgiving, but then admit we were going to do them anyway and start looking for he extension cords and get out the boxes.
This will be our 60th time for each of the holidays and the prep work and final results still bring us a sense of peace and normality, a worthy goal, given what is currently happening the world these days.
Still, we wish everyone a very happy holiday season. May it be all that you wish it to be.
The UFO I saw back in 1994 had alternating red and white lights strung along what appeared to be the bottom of a boat shaped craft slowing passing by overhead.
Out in LA I saw a house decorated for Christmas with what must have been thousands of lights — a star over the roof with radiating beams, house outlined in lights, every bush and tree lit up. The next door neighbor had just one sign — an arrow pointing to his neighbor with the word “ditto”. Still makes me smile when I thing about it.

My string of RGB lights even flashes red and blue when there’s motion detected at night.

Just another reason why I don’t celebrate holidays. Besides, I like it dark when I sleep.

they would have to make the lights sturdier. They aren’t engineered to be outside all year for years, even if some people do try and get away with it.

Next lights are Thanksgiving: orange, green, brown and yellow.
Then Xmas: red, green & white.

I have a string of lights I leave up indoors all year round and I can make them any color I want. I usually use blue because I like it.
