Fortunately, the Democrats have for the most part ignored the stupid and have focused on leading the country into the future.

I’ve always thought that the pendulum swings back and forth and we slowly progress. This “ends justify the means” version of the GOP seems to have knocked that pendulum off its fulcrum.

Honesty and the nation’s good were nothing compared to keeping your elective office. This whole situation is Kafka-esque. I have a close relative who married into a family who, much to his and his wife’s horror, turned out to be Trump supporters. These are highly educated, successful professional people in a very white, very “Christian” above-the-Mason-Dixon-line suburb of a major city. They deny vaccination value, think Trump is sent to save us from ourselves. The matriarch is who makes this so mind-bending. A plump, pleasant-looking grandmother who apparently has the soul of a werewolf from things she says.
