The “huddled masses” refers to the large numbers of immigrants arriving in the United States in the 1880s, particularly through the port of New York. Lazarus was an activist and advocate for Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Tsarist Russia.

    M. R. would have no problem with Scandinavians emigrating.. Brown people, not so much. Immigration “issues” are often about dog whistle racism.

    Yes, do.

Huddled masses are the human resource America converts into power. They run our factories, our farms, our service industries. Their children will grow up and become leaders tomorrow, so we had better teach them well.

We don’t need to keep them OUT. We need to grow them into productive Americans. And that takes strong Congressional action and positive, progressive leadership.

So it’s either open borders or millions being turned back. Which?

Interesting, written to raise money for the pedestal on where she stands. Different times, same humans, maybe they had goals to work toward. Now we live in fear of losing something lost. Sound bites and talking heads, same yellow journalism. Let freedom ring.

This is a problem for Congress to deal with. (Or, are you suggesting MORE executive orders?) As “DangerMan” pointed out above, there was a recent, bipartisan chance at compromise under Obama. Now, it’s just a tragedy, with each side dug in their trenches. Humans are being used to scare other humans for political gain, in a country in which everyone (except Native Americans) are descended from recent immigrants.

Kamala Harris says the border is closed. So what are those crowds of protesters doing at her front door? Did they get lost on their way to picketing the Supreme Court Justices?

Mr. Ramirez, maybe you could sit on the porch and think about the entire poem:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning,

and her name Mother of Exiles.

    From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome;

    her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

    fusilier

    James 2:24

Governor Abbott and Governor Desantis should be immediately start sending them to the front of the governor’s mansion in sacramento. Let that greasy haired sob deal with them.Nuisance looks like a member of the Italian mafia from the 50s.And the Florida legislature allocated $12 million total for the redistribution (like our tax dollars are redistributed to those that pay no taxes) to send the illegals to those sanctuary cities, not just this one flight.

The RWers, like Ramirez keep pushing the Fox-driven “open borders” conspiracy theory because they are losing everywhere and cling to this last-ditch effort, like the old “caravans” rumors.

Like Socialism, Marxism, CRT and “groomer”, the right wing does not understand the meaning of those words, but feels that it should throw it around. Using words you don’t understand and out of context marks one as an idiot.

So America is crying for more immigration to fill the tens of thousands of vacant job openings needed for the economy to function and you idiots are trying to stop people at the border.

    Clueless.

“Open borders” is fascist propaganda, full stop. The unsaid message (that too many commenters forget is supposed to be the quiet part), is that the people emigrating to the US are undesirable, inferior people.

Ramirez or any commenters who think our border is “open” should fill their pockets with marijuana & try to cross between the ports of entry. They can write a book about how our prisons are terrible places & the borders aren’t really that open.

Under President Trump the number of illegals crossing the border trickled down to a 40 year low. He also got rid of the ‘cages’ Obama built to hold them. Yeah, you remember all those pictures of kids in cages the MSM used as propaganda against president Trump, were actually taken while Obama was in office. Biden during and after the election publicly invited foreign nationals to come to America illegally. Can’t deny it as there are too many videos, audio recordings and articles saying just that. 2.7 million illegal aliens have crossed the border and the BP estimates an additional 450k “got aways” since Biden took office. How is that not an open border?

Actually, Ms Lazarus’ poem does say exactly that. On the other hand, I don’t remember anyone except “conservatives” saying anything about open borders.

The federal government transports adult detainees in its custody from one facility to another, or from one U.S. city to another during deportation proceedings. Not trafficking immigrants across State lines like DeSantis and Abbott.

The vast majority of people on the flights are unaccompanied minors who crossed the border, requested asylum under immigration law, and are being released from federal custody to a parent or sponsor. Not trafficking immigrants across State lines like DeSantis and Abbott.

Some of these flights happen at night, but they are not covert operations. The same types of flights were done by the Trump administration. Not like trafficking immigrants across State lines like DeSantis and Abbott.

Democrats in sanctuary states shocked because they were only pandering for Hispanic votes. They didn’t actually think they’d have to take care of illegals! Republicans aren’t playing fair!

If you ask, many native Americans would deport all of the illegal immigrants arriving before 1776.

The border is not open. Just try crossing the border in either direction. There may be a border crisis, but calling the border open is inaccurate.

I love it when Ramirez hits a nerve. All the little liberal demorats come running out to preach their pre-recorded excuses for Brandon’s failures. Send every one of the illegal migrants to DC. Maybe our “leaders” will see them then. Of course, they won’t do anything about it. No kick-backs to be gained.
