“One million BC”, Carol Landis, Victor Mature and Lon Chaney. Great flick. Then there was “One Million Years BC”, with Raquel Welch and John Richardson. Not a great film, but it had Raquel Welch. Did I mention Raquel Welch?
Where would you even get TV tubes these days? When I was a kid, every grocery store had tube testers where you could test radio TV tubes and buy a replacement. But once transistor radios came along, they all faded away.
I don’t like digital TVs as when I look at the set and there is any movement on the screen I see small boxes making up the picture where the motion is (hard to describe). We still have 2 analog sets so I can watch TV comfortably.
We are big movie fans – from November 1973 until the first week of March 2020 we went to the movies at least once a week (record is 12 movies in one week) and husband has been miserable.
He decided to get a (small) big screen TV so we could continue our weekly movie date on something bigger than our kitchen analog TV. He showed me that I would see the boxes moving. I complained that the pictures were too bright and hurt my eyes – could not even look at them in the stores. He assured me that the TVs in the store were set on a special store setting with brighter pictures and I gave in. (So much for the colonial revival decorated living room HE spent years curating now an Ikea table with a TV on it dominates the room.)
So now we play movie theater – I have to sit on the second most uncomfortable chair in the house as it is the only chair which I can sit in and have my feet reach the floor. But the picture is so bright that I cannot watch it without those glasses that they sell to get rid of glare while driving and the sound is so loud (or he cannot hear it) that I wear the ear plugs I use when shooting our reenactment unit’s cannon. Such a perfect, comfortable way to watch TV – but it makes him a bit happier.

I still have a huge CRT TV in my living room. Not a ‘tube set’ .. but no less out-of-date with current cable/home video options.
Though, I also have a giant HD flat screen .. so, I can’t claim to be as ‘retro’ as Dean.

Dean likes retro so much, he’s on the gray-scale.

Do they EVEN MAKE TV tubes anymore? I don’t think so.

I would be worried about that club.

Dean, you need to keep up with the times. Tubes are for cavemen!

Also, waiting ten minutes for your tube TV to warm up was a pain. You can have Retro.

Analog TV is sooooo much better.
