The grocery store at which I’m employed doesn’t do that much anymore that since the pandemic. Even before my hire thereat, the same grocery store would have a stand at one of the aisles of samples manned by someone and the cheesemongers’ area would too.
When we moved here, the Roth’s around the block was giving out samples first Fridays. It stopped the second month we were here and hasn’t started again.

Even in times of food shortages at the supermarket, there’s always seems to be plenty of tofu to go around…..

Anything except tofu. Soy contains something like estrogen, that will give you man-boobs.

I don’t sample anything that wasn’t butchered or an unhealthy snack.

Tofu is like Grits, if you put enough stuff on them, you can make them edible.

Nope – I never have – and don’t expect to ever do so. I’m in my late 70s.

You need to be sure about new things, so several samples of each is required.

You used to be able to get a whole lunch on Costco samples. They know people do it and many of the people offering them even encouraged it.

What, you mean there are people who will go past a free sample table and NOT try one?

Other than at Costco and BJs – I have never seen anyone handing out samples of food at food/super market.
