Now that would be a great way to watch the fireworks. Great view, great company, and great ice cream on demand. No crowds, no spending most of the night finding a parking place and then finding the car later plus the hassle of the crowd.
Around here the fireworks on the 4th are the illegal ones. All of the legitimate ones have theirs on other nights.
Friday night (July 1) we heard fireworks going off that sounded like a professional show. Fireworks other than professional shows are illegal here – not even sparklers allowed. So we were upset. Husband had the idea it might the ones in a county park so I looked it up and we presume that was what we were hearing – though it is about a mile away with houses and businesses in between.
When I read the Sunday newspaper – apparently the show ended early due to fire problems – and that was from professionals!
Tonight (7/3) the local idiots started – last year some of them were shooting the fireworks in the middle of the street – a 4 lane main road – in between the cars driving through!
Use to be a Howard Johnsons right across the Potomac River from the Washington Monument where we would buy an Orange Freeze and watch the 4th of July fireworks.
My wife and I went to a fireworks show on Friday night, and all we treated ourselves to was a couple of ice cream sandwiches — at a cost of $12 for two of them! You know you’re getting old when all you can do is focus on how much cheaper things used to be.
But I brought my camera and tripod along, and got some good pictures (and enjoyed the show), so it was a good night anyway.
