How ironic, that the GQP, which seeks out the lowest common denominator among voters, does everything in its power to avoid looking at the common denominator in mass shootings.

Why are we still talking about this?

    It’s been over a week.

We should be on to some other issue by now – to make this go away . . .

I know, let’s have something guaranteed to change the subject before the election,

    Shout it out now:

    “Hillary did something!”

    “Look over there!”

    (sigh)

The Buffalo shooter was insane, right?

    .

So, when he goes to trial, he is innocent by reason of insanity, right?

Just listen to the death cult right wingers pick up these cues and repeat them endlessly. In other circumstances this would be funny but as Adlai Stevenson said, “It hurts too much to laugh and I’m too old to cry.”

The problem with shootings is all of the above. But, as President Biden has pleaded, just do something! Because to not do anything, AGAIN, will make it look like the Repubs are just pushing it under the rug, and the wouldn’t want that, would they? Maybe they would.

I read that a recent convert was asked if she thought Jesus would approve of Blacks joining her congregation. She replied yes, he would but he would be wrong. She and the evangelical clergy who have mansions, yachts, and jets I believe are missing the point of the teachings of Jesus. The term that comes to mind is white sepulchers.

Shooter, victim in Ames shooting were members of Iowa National Guard

Two of the three people who died in a shooting outside of an Ames church on Thursday were members of the Iowa National Guard, according to officials.

Not all, but more and more of Republican voters are getting tired of the song and dance and lack of action, and noticing Republicans support is for the killers to gain ready access to military grade weapons to kill the rest of us with. They are beginning to realize these things can happen to them and their children, and giving up assault weapons may be the only way to save them. We are a bit slow here in the States, New Zealand figured that out with one mass shooting. Guess what? they haven’t had another since.

Will shootings still happen in the states? Yes, there are a lot of other guns out there, that many do not store properly. As long, as we remain a nation with a love affair with guns, but the ability to kill large numbers of people quickly and easily will be taken away from them with the removal of assault rifles. Another of W. Bush’s many failures as president, was allowing the assault weapon ban to be lifted.

Background checks and waiting/cool down periods should be a minimum requirement for owning a gun in all states. I’d go for a written safety test, much like the written test people have to pass before they take a road test to drive their car, as well. The only people opposed to such legislation, likely shouldn’t own a weapon of any sort.

Libs just can’t to recognize intangible problems, they just want to point at the tool, not the situations that create these disasters.

All tools are weapons, all weapons are tools. It has no thoughts, no motives, no ability to act on its own. Rather it is how people think about the tool. People think about the power they believe the tool gives them. That power is given to them by those who fear the tool rather than the person. We need to address the people on both sides of that equation. Both an axe and a chainsaw will fell a tree, but neither tool determines where the tree falls, that is dependent on the wielder. So this is not really a function of the tools, but rather a breakdown in the social contract.

The mental health is really an after the fact red flag. Like comedian Kathy Griffen, with the severed Trump head. Disturbing, looking potentially disturbed but no criminal activity at all. The mass shooters, most of them clean as a whistle, first offense.

There is no reason to have as many guns available readily accessible. Yes, mental health is an issue, so a psych evaluation should be “prescribed” prior to purchase. As comic Jim Jeffries would say, no one needs more than seven guns, if you can’t defend your family with seven, you probably were not meant to survive anyway.
