If it were only true. Spineless Republican leadership let one such as him represent their party despite his obvious unfitness, he has hijacked it, and the Trump show goes on.
I’ve never understood why the “common man/woman” would ever consider a billionaire bully from the Bronx (Queens, I know, I know…but BBB is just ever so much better) to be THEIR champion, who understands them, who defends and supports them. Trump expects 110% loyalty from his “followers” and gives none.
I would that that was the case, no only in the south, but everywhere in the US. But, unfortunately, there are still a sizable number of dimwits out there that say, You say jump, oh orange god, and we say, how high.
After Buffalo, Trump threatens “civil war”: Mainstream media refuses to connect the dots
Last Saturday, Donald Trump endorsed a post on Truth Social — his own social media network — by a user who was either calling for or predicting a “civil war” in response to “enemies within” the United States. Exactly a week earlier, an apparent white supremacist terrorist killed 10 Black people in Buffalo. His “manifesto” channels the same basic values and beliefs as the Trump and the contemporary Republican Party.
Even after that event, America’s mainstream news media and other public voices, for the most part, still refuse to tell the unfiltered truth about the dangers to American society and freedom represented by Trump and the Republicans.
Within hours of the Buffalo attack, Donald Trump told a rally audience in Austin, Texas: “I think they had a tragic event in Buffalo … with numerous people being killed.” He followed that up with the narcissistic claim that “in 18 months in Afghanistan, we lost nobody.” That is not true. For Trump, claiming credit for his imaginary successes as president is clearly more important than paying respect to innocent people killed in a domestic terror attack. Trump said nothing that resembled condolences and did not appear to be sad about the loss of life.
Earlier in the Austin rally, aging right-wing rock star Ted Nugent told the audience: “I love you people madly, but I’d love you more if you went forward and just went berserk on the skulls of the Democrats and the Marxists and the communists.” He also described Democrats as “enemies of America.”
Maddow Blog | As Perdue loses in Ga., Trump’s vendetta fails spectacularly
When a poll in Georgia last week showed former Sen. David Perdue trailing by 30 points in the gubernatorial primary, the Republican was incredulous. “We may not win Tuesday,” Perdue said, “but I guaran-damn-tee you that we are not down 30 points.”
Oddly enough, that was true, though not in the way the candidate probably intended: As NBC News reported, Perdue actually ended up losing by about 50 points.
Trump insisted anyway, pushing Perdue into a candidacy. For the former president, this was personal: Kemp failed to go along with Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, which meant it was time for payback. The Georgia governor had put democracy ahead of Trump’s desires, and the former president was desperate to send a message: Such betrayals would not be tolerated.
This is not a situation in which the former president can credibly claim his support for Perdue was merely perfunctory. On the contrary, Trump not only handpicked his preferred candidate, he personally played a role in clearing the GOP field.
What’s more, the former president didn’t just invest time, energy, and credibility into this primary contest — holding an in-state rally and even appearing in television ads — he also made literal investments in Perdue’s ill-fated campaign. The New York Times reported a few days ago that Trump gave “$2.64 million to groups helping Mr. Perdue — by far the most he has ever invested in another politician.”
This also isn’t a situation in which the former president might try to argue that Perdue pushed the wrong message: The former senator, at Trump’s direction, effectively served as a sycophantic puppet, making ridiculously untrue claims about the 2020 election the centerpiece of his candidacy.
Trump is finally bumping up against the major sticking point in his party’s machinations – once you’ve gotten people in your party willing to follow you, you discover they’re too stupid to reliably follow detailed commands – they can understand and follow simple commands like “yell”, “riot”, “shoot” and “kill” but complicated instructions – forget it.
The two key psychological traits in conspiracy-sharing conservatives
Recently published research discovered that there is a subset of conservatives who are not only very susceptible to misinformation but also those most likely to spread it. The research, which utilized over 4,600 participants who underwent eight experimental studies, found that “low-conscientiousness conservatives,” or LCCs, were spreading the most misinformation. The researchers said they shared two distinct psychological traits:
Low levels of conscientiousness
Appetite for chaos
As with other research, this study confirmed that conservatives have a “much greater tendency towards misinformation.” Yet using statistical analysis, it was discovered that the common denominator for spreading misinformation came from those wanting a general “desire for chaos,” which was defined as a motivation to take down the social and political institutions to “assert dominance and superiority of one’s own group.”
For LCCs, spreading fake news was a way to encourage this chaos. The study concluded by stating efforts should be focused on this particular subset of conservatives.
Fortunately, LCCs are easily identifiable online. Social media companies can and should be proactive in limiting their ability to spread misinformation. Fact-checking doesn’t do much to dissuade them, although psychological targeting has proven to be effective in curbing some of the illicit behavior. In fact, experiments with psychological targeting showed that matching the content of persuasive appeals to an individual’s psychological characteristics, which can be accurately predicted by their digital footprint, significantly altered their behavior.
maybe they didn’t vote for the orange monkeys candidate that will help him overthrow the government after the 2024 election but they will still vote for GQP senators that give small red states the veto power over any legislation the majority of Americans want and need.
