When I was a young man, working sound & stage for bands, there was guaranteed to be a certain of the audience made up of junior partner/executive assistant to the VP/“I’m getting faced on Saturday night – so I’m a rebel and a loner, not a small cog in a big machine”-type empty suits; I heard “Must be nice not to have to work for a living” so often I had a stock response: “Tell you what – tomorrow, you get up at 6:00 am, load your office into a truck, drive 5-6 hours, unload the truck, set up your office, work a full day, tear it down and load it back in the truck, go to a cheap motel and get 2-4 hours of sleep, then get up in the morning and do it again. After a week or two, come back and we’ll talk about who works and who doesn’t.”
I suspect Tony hears similar inanity, and this strip is his equivalent response.

I believe that some “cartoonists” may have to pay the syndicates to print their stuff.

Yes, “Don’t judge a man unless you have walked in his shoes.” Not original but I first heard it from my late dad, a syndicated cartoonist.

On her way to wealth and fame great enough to actually rival even that of the beloved Tony Cochran…..
