Have you ever heard of a “tickle file”? These days it’s been replaced with an electronic calendar, so it’s easy to remember such things. The REAL evil genius (also already being practiced right here on Earth) is making it impossibly HARD to cancel. One company that had an effective monopoly made it so hard that the only way was to actually show up at the office in person and spend no less than 20 minutes arguing with the “customer assistant”. It was possible to do it that way. And it seemed like it would be possible to do it in other ways, but you never got off the “let me forward your call” loop (except when they hung up on you).

And then there was the medical group I used for awhile. If I needed to talk about my bill or my prescriptions, it was actually quicker to drive to their office and wait in line to see the clerk than to wait on hold to talk to an equivalent clerk. I actually timed the phone wait on two or three occasions. Averaged a bit over 15 minutes. In person, including parking and waiting in line was a bit under 12. (We DID live close, which had been one reason to choose them).

It’s like the emails with the pre-clicked boxes that automatically make any donations monthly donations unless you un-click them.

If the “renewal” agents have worked for Sirius then it will be next to impossible to cancel anyway.

The evil genius part is where the terms for a valid cancellation comes in. You can start with a tiny drop of blood, but to cancel you wave to hand in a towel drenched in the blood of your children and spouse.

Doesn’t that also apply to people who forget to send in their rebate coupons?

i cancelled before the product was ever delivered. I ordered something for a 15 day trial period and I just had to pay shipping and handling. When I got the confirmation of my order I was told then that each month after that I would get the product for 59.95 plus shipping and handling. I emailed them I couldn’t afford to pay that amount, that it wasn’t included in there advertising, and to cancel the trial offer AND any future mailings. They took care of it and refund appeared the next day.

My advice from personal experience: Do not accept a free trial of LinkedIn Premium.
