Robots won’t rule as long as men are in charge of the fuse box. Even if we wanted them to.

“With a quick glance to the right and left (a habit formed in the mean streets of El Paso), the man draws his right arm back in one long, graceful arc. The movement folds back his leather duster, uncovers his sidearm, and withdraws the weapon from his thigh holster. Three loud cracks break the silence as the heavy automatic spits slugs into the machine’s lock mechanism. The autovendor shudders, groans, and releases a river of noisy coins as the product door slowly swings open.

The gunman pauses, stoops down, and reaches into the brightly colored treasures now free from their prison. “I wonder if these cheez crackers are still any good? Ooh! M&M peanuts….”

Miles away, a man in white coveralls is suddenly overcome with grief. He pauses, sighs, and looks to the west. Standing slowly, he walks past the bright letters painted down the side of his van and with two short jumps and a push of the starter is ready to head out. A much older man appears at the gate, a pad in his hand and a pained expression on his face. “You go make somebody PAY for that, you hear me!?

And they taunt you by hanging up your bag of life-giving chips by a corner and the end of the spiral, exactly at your eye level.

We are almost there. We seemingly all carry our god in our pocket and worship it throughout the day, sometimes and for some of us, even all day, and I’m not talking about a Rosary or Prayer Beads sadly……
