As much as I speak English as my primary language and the younger sibling of a collegiate professor who teaches it, I don’t get what he means. What would such a card say in those conditions?

So … you want a Get Well card that doesn’t say “Get Well”.

    Imperative: Get well

Indicative: A genial demeanor helps your body to heal

Perhaps it would be phrased: Get well, if not let me know when the funeral is.

I have totally forgotten what those words mean in a sentence, but it was imperative that I laugh. I guess it is indicative of my congenial nature….I don’t need consoled much.

Take more Tylenol and you’ll be fit as a fiddle.

Laughter is the best medicine. If you would only read the comics, it will assist you in regaining health.

Back in the day I would have hoped the English teacher stayed off longer! She gave way too much homework. I’d rather have cajoled the easy-going substitute to stay on for the rest of the year.

If the teacher is very ill, you might need a card with an operative.

Nowadays even an English teacher is likely not to know what you’re talking about :(
