So what are we supposed to do, look the other way, continue living like nothing is happening outside our borders? Let yet another dictator invade neighboring nations? The British & French already tried that, and half of Europe was leveled before they put him down.
Russia was the United States’ 20th largest supplier of goods imports in 2019.
U.S. goods imports from Russia totaled $22.3 billion in 2019, up 6.8% ($1.4 billion) from 2018, and up 22.3% from 2009.
The top import categories (2-digit HS) in 2019 were: mineral fuels ($13 billion), precious metal and stone (platinum) ($2.2 billion), iron and steel ($1.4 billion), fertilizers ($963 million), and inorganic chemicals ($763 million).
U.S. total imports of agricultural products from Russia totaled $69 million in 2019. Leading categories include: snack foods ($8 million), tree nuts ($6 million), other vegetable oils ($3 million), essential oils ($3 million), and other dairy products ($2 million).
The main imports are related to fossil fuel use (remember platinum is used in catalytic converters). The sooner we get to cleaner fuels for our vehicles, the better.
I think the point is that the sanctions also have an effect on the US, not that the artist is opposed to the sanctions. But such an interpretation doesn’t leave much justification to bitch, so some will naturally gravitate towards an interpretation that allows them to spew their predominate nature.
The sanctions affect the world economy and will start jockeying for the materials the world gets from Russia from other sources. We are still reeling from the disruptions of the pandemic and now China is looking at a shut down in Shenzhen a manufacturing hub. Bad news all around because one man wants to turn the clock back.
i wonder if robert’s heritage is from ancestors in the Basque region….I wonder how they would have felt when the Nazi’s helped Franco kill their ancestors…too bad no one sent them help…..
So we should join Ariail and *ucker Traitor instead of standing up to fascists? Sounds like a purebred reThuglicans response. As for getting sane people to start goosestepping in that line, sod off! – it ain’t happening.
The sanctions DO hurt Americans, but not nearly as much as it is hurting the Russians – for instance, we import 10s if not hundreds of tons of fish from Russia, annually. The whole point of sanctions is to cause pain, and NO PAIN is just one way.
Oh, and speaking of “pain” the Russian people may have lost access to KFC and McDonalds and the “Big Mac” – but at last report, “Burger King” was still going strong in the former Soviet state, so they’re not totally without access to American fast food!
Who would stand behind such a weapon in the first place?
That is, who would think they would be immune to consequences from tough sanctions on Russia? Those who want something to be done so long as it doesn’t effect them? I first heard “guns and butter” during the Vietnam era.

What does Russia really provide that we can’t either get from somewhere else or do without?
Patjade about 2 years ago
That’s right, complain about the effects to the US people because of those poor Russians. I can imagine what you would have done during WWII.

Not funny when based on a lie. In what way, other than a small tick in gas prices, are sanctions backfiring against the US?

So what if USA gets a little dusting if Russia has to suffer with being hit with sanctions until they decide to end the war/replace their leader

Ariail would have complained if there were no sanctions, also.

Pres. Biden also has the bazooka pointed the right way. When #45 tried sanctions against China, he Hit Americans instead.

So RA, you think we shouldn’t have done anything about Putin’s assassinating and destroying Ukraine? Really?
FrankErnesto about 2 years ago
Has anyone else noticed? The right-wingers have stopped calling everyone “commies”, it made Putin sensitive.
