Lots on this theme today (and yesterday). Spouse noticed that gas stations had lines (“longer” lines in a few cases). Guess: People are predicting more increases.
Ah, the joys of unregulated capitalism! The leadership of a fully socialist nation that owned the oil production facilities would be at fault … but in the US oil production is privately owned, and managed.
You might look into who is actually being represented in Congress — “we the people” or “we the corporations” — before you vote in the next election.
There have been man-on-the-street interviews that show that the populace is willing to pay higher prices at the pumps in support of Ukraine and its struggles. So, this toon may only reflect GQP sentiment, about which Phil has personal experience.
So, how many of the delicate little snowflakes in the “Free-Dumb Convoy” will be kvetching that they aren’t making any money since they stopped hauling any revenue freight in order to drive their 6 MPG Semis across country while buying $3 a gallon Diesel, to whine about having to do something INTELLIGENT, like protecting their health, and the health of others that they come in contact with?? Are they gonna try to blame “The Gubbmint” when their trucks start to be repossessed because they didn’t make their payments so they could throw their whining little tantrums??
As someone who receives royalties from natural gas extraction I can tell you that I am getting more each month because the price of fuel is up. All well and good for me. I can also say that I am willing to pay six dollars a gallon or better for gasoline as long as that rat bastard Putin feels the squeeze.
A little something to consider: During the “Arab Oil Embargo” of the early 70s, gas went from about $.28 a gallon to around $.70 a gallon, an increase of around 250%. Recently, gas locally here in Kentucky went from $3.18 a gallon to $3.89. an increase of roughly 20% or so.
Here in NorKal gas prices rose to $5.00 at buget stations to over $6.00 at Chevron, with no end in sight. About a $1.00 a gallon increase since New Year, while We can absorb $10.00 a gallon but the young people living paycheck to paycheck it must be devastating to their budgets. Compared to the misery being endured in Ukraine and future misery across Europe our problems pale in comparison. Shoot straight and make it count Ukrainian Freedom Fighters.
Very little of the oil/gas the US uses comes from Russia, and the amount has not increased under Biden. (Europe is far more dependent, and they are now trying — with difficulty — to free themselves from that.)
Neither does the US President have any direct control over the price. That is controlled by international investors — they’re called “capitalists”, — who are apparently spooked by what’s happening in the Ukraine… and worried that it might spread.

Suck it up, buttercup!
This isn’t the first time our carbon dependency has been revealed as our Achilles heel, and it won’t be the last.
We should have gotten out from under oil decades ago, yet here we are once again. . .

We have many older wells that only run a few days a month, why don’t they just start pumping them more?

Some Americans have enough gas money to waste driving around Washington protesting masks.

I understand that it may be hard for many to absorb the increases. I tolerate it, to support the freedom fighters in Ukraine.

The whiners should be complaining about the oil companies price-gouging; because that’s exactly what it is.
