OK. Please make sure to vomit on the shoes of the rethuglicans who insisted that we support more extraction of petrochemicals instead of developing cheap, effective green alternatives.
Oh, and while you’re at it, consider that Vlad (the poisoner) Putin is causing quite a bit of it. Blame him for his entirely illegal, unethical, MURDEROUS invasion of a sovereign nation.
Oh please. The price of gas has been worse in the last 10 years. And, as a percentage of income, it’s been WAAYYYY higher. Wait until inflation really kicks in. I remember interest rates as high as 18%.
If you’re whining about this, you’re really going to be in trouble later.
That green goes to the oil companies who are trying to recover the losses during the pandemic. If we hadn’t had a corporate Democrat in charge, we’d have some antitrust enforcement. Remember competition, that part of capitalism? As far as green energy, it’d be worse if all cars still used gasoline.
I guess some people need a reminder that petroleum market volatility is accentuated to the extreme by events. On the other hand, the sun is pretty constant.
I can not think of any new technology that does not start more expensive and then reduce over time. So, maybe we all should have started earlier trying to transition? Or, minimally, invest in more fuel efficient gas using vehicles? The same people kvetching about this “crisis” now, were the same people mocking many of these attempts earlier. It must be nice to live in a world in which you’re responsibility for problems does not occur to you, huh?
If you want to really “Go green”, do like the Germans did and allow their government to turn off all of their nuclear power plants at precisely the same moment that Putin invaded the Ukraine. Thus making total their energy dependence on Russia. How green (or how red) can you get?
This is a stupid and tiresome argument. People have been paying attention to environmental destruction and the need for alternative energy since the 1960s. All along we’ve been told that the technology is not efficient enough, etc., etc., which justifies not trying to improve it while using available funding/tax breaks/incentives to find more ways to use fossil fuels instead. “We don’t have the time to develop it. We need gasoline now!”
We heard it from lawmakers even during the Gas Crisis of the early 1970s. Remember that Jimmy Carter set an example by putting solar panels on the White House, and that Reagan had them removed immediately upon settling in. It’s not like this is a new idea; it’s an idea that has been intentionally sabotaged.
The first rule of holes: when in one, stop digging. I submit that it’s way past time to stop trying to live in a non-existent past, and to start moving toward the future.
Again Goodwin takes a US point of view on a world problem.
Never mind the freedom of Ukraine, or even the possibility of the extermination of the human race in a looming nuclear war. Goodwin focuses on the most minor, petty and inconsequential effect of world events The a 25% rise in the price of gasoline in the United States .

Goodwyn must have invested heavily in fossil fuels since he is so afraid of “going green”
