Again, about 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry introducing this week’s artist, which I already pointed to, as well as the archived Gookie link, in my March 20, 2017 (change 2022/03/21 to 2017/03/20 in the address bar) comment; so, I won’t repeat it here.

“The Incomplete Art of Why Things Are” – Richard Thompson 2017

The “Look inside this book” contains dozens of his cartoons that accompanied the Joel Achenbach “Why Things Are” column in the Washington Post.

Reminds me of a book I read about Catherine the Great. The little princess was brought in to marry the future Tsar and then she took over the country.

Alice’s manhole cover dance ditty’s are cute, counter punctuated with terrifying imagined potential. Doesn’t she know any nursery rhymes? Her Cul de Sac ditty’s remind me of a Brothers Grimm tale.

The more people actually act out her unsavory fantasies the less amusing Alice becomes.

She needs a velvet glove to go with that iron fist.

    Our Alice is not a proto-Putin! She’s just a self-centered, wise-ass, four-year-old Otterloop!
