What is the point of ranking tragedies? For one, there is a huge difference from external and internal threats. For another, one incompetent president who should have been impeached is different from another fascist-craving president who tried to subvert the entire electoral process for himself.

January 6. Wow such tragedy. A few broken windows and people strolling around inside the Capitol invited by the Capitol Police. The only person that died was actually shot by the Capitol Police.

9/11 was an attack on the Capital by foreign enemies that hate American democracy.

1/6 was an attack on the Capital by Americans that hate American democracy.

You tell me which is better.

At least on 9/11 I knew who the enemy was.

All the while conservatives have been fighting tooth+nail to cut medical care funding to 9/11 first responders who developed cancer/copd.

Actually no, it was worse. September 11th was an easily understood attack on our nation by outsiders who are our enemies. January 6th was an attack on our political system by citizens turned traitors. The former is easy to fight, or at least go into action against. The latter is something inherently wrong with our society (and I don’t mean the honesty of the election).

This certainly explains Paynes aversion to the truth.

In my “discussions” with a couple of conservative colleagues, whose arguments are the same as many above, a couple of things have become clear to me. They are unwilling (unable?) to acknowledge that what America is is more than buildings. Even more than people. For me, what makes America is the IDEAS that created it. Truth, rule of law, the Constitution, peaceful transfer of power, precedent, etc. If one is to accept “American exceptionalism”, these are the things that make us “exceptional”. These were the things under attack on 1/6/21.

People come and go (historically), buildings can be replaced (and, no that does NOT mean I’m in favor of destruction of property in any form), but how do you “repair” an IDEA that’s been damaged? My right leaning friends NEVER seem to want to answer that.

9/11 was A Tragedy that posed no danger to democracy in the United States.

6 January 2021 was an outrage that showed how great the danger to democracy in the United States was, and from where the source of that danger originated.

9/11 was an attack by foreign terrorists. America hunted down those responsible and killed or captured them. January 6 was perpetrated by domestic terrorists, many of whom have been arrested and convicted, but led by a narcissistic wannabe messiah, and although he himself has yet to be brought to account, his minions are falling one by one.

IMO Jan 6th was worse than 9/11. The insurrection was planned, paid for, and executed by elected government officials and carried out be trump’s followers and anti-government terrorist groups. (Yes, more people were killed in the 9/11 attack perpetrated by foreign terrorists… but 1/6 was planned and carried out by American citizens.)

Besides that FACT that Varvel (as usual) cannot tell the truth, the main difference between the two dates is the 9/11 was an attack by a foreign entity and Jan. 6 was an internal attack by one political party against the government of the United States. The internal attack was actually worse, even though the body count was lower.

It was NOT “just as bad” … because it was worse.  Because home-grown. It’s true that — so far — we haven’t seen as many deaths from January 6th.

An Extensive FBI investigation of Jan 6th determined that there was no insurrection, cases of treason, plot to overthrow the government or election and no organized coup. Out of tens of thousands of peaceful protesters there were a couple hundred hotheads egged on by BLM, AntiFa and FBI agitprops who committed minor acts of breaking and entry and trespassing. Of the few cases that have been tried those have been the only charges and those have been the only convictions.

So every one of the leftist here yammering about insurrection, coups, treason etc. are liars, propagandists and purveyors of disinformation. Que Mala Eres being chief among them.

First Harris had just left the Capital. Second who was in charge of Security? That massive group of people had been in Washington DC for over 3 days. Extra Security was supposedly 3 hours away…..actually took way more than 3 hours to get the Guard in place. DC had been a target for BLM, plus White House was during the BLM attacks. Who ever was in charge of security should be on trial along with those crazy Trump radicals. Harris nor Biden mention all these failures. They never mention an unarmed woman killed by the Secret Service. Just like Afghanistan another big talk and no action.

Well, at least in theory, 9/11 was an attack on the US by outside agencies, while 1/6 was an attack on the American democratic process itself, by Americans. You tell me which is worse.
