I’ve done my share, and more, of animal rescue, so it is with the most profound reverence I say goodbye to Ms White.

My first “exposure” to Betty White was watching her show, “Life with Elizabeth”, where the tagline at the end of every show was the announcer asking the character White played the question, “Aren’t you ashamed?” and White shaking her head “no” as she grinned.

This was on a green-screened Hoffman television in the early ‘50s which had a continuous tuner just like a radio – the screen was supposed to be “easier on the eyes”, I think. The continuous tuner was a pain ’cause it wouldn’t stay locked on the channel, but would slowly ‘drift’ to between-channel snow.

By the way, this was about the same time that my grandmother’s Southern Baptist preacher assured me that, “Of course animals can’t go to Heaven – they have no Souls!” thereby thrusting me into the first steps toward atheism. I should have asked him at the time how it was that the Lion and Lamb he was always going on about managed to sneak in – but I was already under too much scrutiny for asking too many “hard” questions, so I didn’t.

Thanks, everyone. As you’re probably aware, I don’t do a lot of these.
