Stocks selling at historic levels: this is what the rich do when politicians threaten to tax the rich and we are supposed to believe that the gov won’t come after more of the middle class money to compensate. The heaviest selling came as lawmakers in Washington hashed out potential tax increases as part of the Democrats’ Build Back Better legislative package, at times considering raising the long-term capital-gains tax rate. In November, insiders unloaded a collective $15.59 billion. The legislation, pending in the Senate, imposes a 5% tax on adjusted gross income above $10 million beginning in 2022, and another 3% on income over $25 million, including capital gains from stock sales. Congressional revenue estimates assume taxpayers will accelerate capital gains in 2021. Wealthy taxpayers could save up to $8 million in taxes on every $100 million of shares sold ahead of the effective date, Mr. Taylor said. Such potential tax savings have been “a powerful incentive to sell this year,” he said.Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk, considered the world’s richest person, with a net worth of about $270 billion, ridiculed a proposed tax on billionaires’ unrealized capital gains, saying on Twitter that eventually the government runs “out of other people’s money and then they come for you.” He has moved to sell more than $10 billion in Tesla stock over about a month—including roughly $4 billion to cover tax withholding on option exercises—in his first sale of company shares since 2010, other than sales designated as made solely to satisfy tax-withholding obligations.
VVVVRRRoooooom Analysis: Wages lose ground to inflationWherever consumers look, from gasoline and fuel oil with winter on the way, to food, cars and housing, everything is more expensive. Food costs climbed 0.9% in October and are up 5.3% since last October. Staples like meat, poultry and eggs are 1.7% more costly on the month and 11.9% on the year. Fuel oil for heating, used mainly in older homes in the Northeast, rose 12.3% in October and is up 59.1% year over year. Gasoline, a necessity for the vast majority of Americans, soared 6.8% last month and is 60% higher since October 2020. New automobile prices were 1.4% higher for the month and 9.8% over the year. Used car prices climbed 2.5% and 26.4% respectively, driven higher by a scarcity of many new models due to the computer chip shortage. Housing expenses, including home and rental costs, rose 0.5% in October and are 3.5% higher on the year. These prices comprise about one-third of the CPI calculation. Because rental and mortgages are long term contracts, increases in this category become permanent additions to household expenses. Average Hourly Earnings rose 4.9% for the year in October and 0.4% in the month. At a 6.2% annual inflation rate and 0.9% monthly, the purchasing power of wages fell 1.3% and 0.5% in the respective periods. – FXStreet.com
Obama advisers are even warning the Biden administration about inflation spiraling out of control.“His top economic people are looking at this inflation, and they’re seeing these bills that are being passed for trillions and trillions of dollars where it’s like throwing money out the window,” Trump said, a reference to Obama’s director of the National Economic Council Lawrence Summers’ warning.“These are Obama people telling Biden people ‘you can’t do this,’ but they push forward anyway,” Trump added.Trump trolled Biden on his calls for equity, noting there is nothing equitable about the complicit media covering for his campaign, election, and administration.“We have to get back to borders; we have to get back to free enterprise, and we need a press that’s fair and equal and we don’t have it,” Trump said. “What’s happened with Big Tech is a disgrace. It’s just an absolute disgrace.”
What the dims were saying in 2019… “The idea that Trump’s strength is on the economy is false,” said Patrick McHugh, Priorities USA executive director. “While macro indicators might suggest that the economy is doing all right, everyday Americans are not feeling that.”
Promises broken, what a surprise! Good thing for Hunter, his valuable art would have been taxed before the lobbyists bought it. Senate Democrats are not sticking with their previous plan for a billionaires’ tax in their $2 trillion social and climate spending bill as they race to finalize the details and approve it before Christmas.
Frank Clemente, the executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness, said in an email to Insider that he is confident “that negotiations on this package are ongoing and that a Billionaires Income Tax is part of the discussions.”
The academics argue that the tax’s omission would be “unjust” to the everyday taxpayers left to the foot the bill. “President Biden campaigned on a promise to ensure the richest Americans pay their fair share of tax,” the letter said.
Without the tax, the academics write, the bill “as it is now written would disappoint the millions of voters who support that promise” of Biden’s.
Wait, what? So the press is the enemy of the people now? What hypocrisy. The Biden White House, plagued by low approval ratings that have weakened the president’s clout and raised fears among Democrats over next year’s midterm elections, is blaming the media for some of its problems. On Thursday, more than five dozen liberal groups sent a letter to key media stakeholders urging more balanced coverage of the 46th president. In it, organizations condemned what they consider the “pervasive pattern of under-reporting and negative bias toward the actions and agenda of this administration.”“Please consider and swiftly address your role in promoting this widespread, destructive pattern of reporting,” the letter states. “Not only is it doing harm to our democracy, but it is also harming your reputation as journalists and that of the news outlets you represent.”
Sound familiar?“The post-totalitarian system touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his or her ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power; and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed; the lack of free expression becomes the highest form of freedom; farcical elections become the highest form of democracy; banning independent thought becomes the most scientific of world views; military occupation becomes fraternal assistance. Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything.” – Václav Havel, a political dissident in the Communist Czechoslovak Socialist Republic who went on to become the President of Czechoslovakia after the fall of the Communist Regime.
Doesn’t Joe want us all in an electric vehicle?A major nickel mine in a Philippines rainforest has continued to expand, mowing down acres of trees as global demand for minerals essential for electric vehicle manufacturing surges. The Rio Tuba mine in the region of Palawan supplies an important mineral for electric vehicle batteries in Tesla and Toyota cars, but the mine is nearing an expansion that would cause it to grow from four square miles to 14 square miles, according to an NBC News investigation. The growth of the mine would cause massive deforestation of the land which environmentalists warn could destroy the area’s ecosystem.Critics of the mine have suggested it could lead to an increased runoff of toxic waste into the environment, further harming the local wildlife, according to NBC News.“What is at stake there is the life and survival of the people in the communities,” Grizelda Mayo-Anda, an environmental lawyer in Palawan, told NBC News. The Rio Tuba nickel mine, though, isn’t the only one to face pushback. Mines producing lithium and copper in Chile and lithium in the U.S. have been lambasted by environmental activists.
Concluding her tribute, Robin Dole noted that her father had released his letter to the public.
She read from a passage in which he expressed his confidence that he was about to transition into a new life in which he will not be alone, because “God will be walking with me.”
“I also confess that I’m a bit curious to learn if I am correct in thinking that Heaven will look a lot like Kansas,” Bob Dole said in his letter, drawing laughter.
“And to see, like others who have gone before me, if I will still be able to vote in Chicago.”
The media reports the SAME employment numbers as “bad” under Biden that they said were “good” under Trump. Incessant screaming about inflation when it is a natural part of supply and demand. When people are polled about the issues without saying which stance is from Dems or Repubs result in HUGE numbers in favor of liberal and even PROGRESSIVE ideas being highly favored, especially taxing the wealthy and large corporations, but the media keeps saying that Dems need to move even further towards Repub ideals to appeal to the voters. The media is corporate, it definitely doesn’t favor Dems.
Isn’t the world ready for a comedy routine called “Leave it to Lisa” that features a political commentator who stumbles blindly around missing the obvious and polishing right wing (fecal material) to the best of her ability?
There is not one person in the white house capable of running a hot dog stand. Their idea of how the economy works is minimal at best. Most likely nobody there has ever made a payroll or done the books of a business. However, they think they are experts in all fields of business. God help us all.
