I don’t buy ANYTHING that Facebrick offers. I just use it to interact w/ my kin and friends. For a particularly weak and watered down meaning of “interact”.

I just use FB to keep track of family, friends, and a few interests. I installed a FB ad blocker to block out all their ads. I also default to https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr, which is chronological posts, instead of “most popular”. I also unfollow (not unfriend) those that I notice post off the rails crap all the time (including one brother who is fully bought into the Fox/Qanon narrative. Seems everyone else in the family did the same thing).

    This works well.

Some of us never see ‘that side’ of Facebook. I keep in touch with family and friends, that’s it.

Calling it another name won’t change the fact that it’s a monster.

The darn thing is that these days the only way to communicate with some people is through Farcebook. People don’t answer their phones anymore (too many robo calls), no one checks their emails (too much spam). I’ve had many people tell me, when I ask why they didn’t respond to voicemail or email, “oh, I never check those. If you want me to see something use Facebook”.

Facebook is just another way for Americans to be stupid without bearing the cost of their stupidity.

It was Facebook’s own people (okay, call them Zuckerberg’s “henchmen”, in the sense that Lex Luthor or the Joker have henchmen) that provided all the evidence we need to know just how contemptible Zuckerberg is. (The fact that the emails were leaked doesn’t invalidate them, of course.) Zuckerberg reminds me of a burglar whose fingerprints were found all over the scene of the crime. His explanation: “Naw, it was never ME. Dr. Frankenstein stole my hands to rob the joint, then he sewed them back on.”

NEARLY as believable as claiming Traitor Trump actually won the election…..

There has been a lot of negative comments about FB and its open media platform. I for one am glad there is such an open media platform out there that I can make good use of. I used to write letters to the editor of a local paper. And they were regularly rejected as being too religious. Yet, a monsignor of the Catholic church was given room to write his religious opinion. Evidently for this paper, Catholic carries more weight than Baptist. So, you have to be careful what you propose when you want media to exercise more control.

You know the real problem isn’t with FB as much as it is with the public at large. I marvel at the stupidity of the public when I watch late night stand up comics use man-on-the-street interviews. A simple question like, “Who was the first president of the US?” should get George Washington but instead gets Ronald Reagan or Alexander Hamilton. There are lots of people out there that don’t know enough to decipher truth from fiction. So, 30% of the electorate believe the Big Lie because they read it on FB or heard it on Tox. As that oft quoted toon, Pogo, once said, “We met the enemy, and it was us.”

Wait is that the new name? Now I know I’ll never join that platform.

Building a Better Monster, might be more appropriate.

Godzilla — over time — turned from a terrifying monster into a defender against other brutal terrifying monsters. It would be great if FB made a similar transition.
