Keep in mind that Gruden was management. He had to have the confidence of ownership, players, and fans. There is a difference between the guy in the most prominent and visible leadership position on the team and a player. See also Urban Meyer. Would a player grinding with a woman-not-his-wife been as important as the HC?
This was not just some average bozo sending emails with racist, misogynistic, and homophobic comments. Jon Gruden was in a position of authority over players and decisions on the hiring and firing of players. Even besides these opinions being understandably not something that an organization that depends on public approval and custom would want to be associated with, these revelations showed that he had personal prejudices that would have affected those decisions and his relationships with his players. (And, BTW, he was not fired, he resigned.
In 1998, Louis Rams football player Leonard Little crashed into a car in downtown St. Louis on his 24th birthday. A blood test showed that Little had a blood-alcohol level of .19, which was near twice the legal limit of .10 at the time.
The other car’s driver, Susan Gutweiler, 47, died of her injuries the next day in the hospital. Little pleading guilty of involuntary manslaughter. The plea arrangement made sure he did not face any jail time. He was not let go from the NFL even though he killed someone.
The NFL is an organization that needs to be dissolved.
Is Bok trying to make some point about white men being victimized here? Which, of course, is absolutely false but it would be in keeping with his mindset.
I guess it’s true that your past will catch up with you. But, it is too bad that we can’t allow for the possibility that a change could’ve taken place. It’s too bad that we can’t be judged for what we are now, and not for what were.
Like we should even listen to Keyshawn Meshawn Johnson. He always referred to Wayne Chrebet as just a “flashlight.” All while Meshawn said “I’m the star!”

Well, the NFL didn’t actually do anything to him. He resigned. From the Raiders, not the NFL. Trust Bok to be massively confused.

Gruden is not the only one. He might be the only one outed, but he is not the only one.

The NFL could let him do part of the halftime show, just like Snoop and Eminem.
