In the fifth panel, Hobbes tackles Calvin, from the side of the bed, in the nick of time (for the sake of Mom and Dad).

Music soothes the savage breast. And blaring trumpets are the best To awaken within us the savage beast Though still yearning for the quiet peace, While Calvin with his trampled horn thus ends his quest.

But the (African) elephant is not a very smart mammal–as his trumpeting arouses a 10-tonne Piveteasaurus!

Looks like our favourite stip is coming to an end. If Calvin blows that trumpet Dad is going to kill him. Unless we want to read about the adventures of Hobbes who may find another little boy but he won’t be as much fun as Calvin.

I’m 63 years old, never been married and not a mother, but I adore Calvin. I can’t help but wonder how long a household would survive with Calvin and the dark-haired little girl from Non-Sequitor. I think the house would implode…but it would be hysterical until then. Thank you Mr. Waterson for bringing some laughter to this world with all the horrid news out there. Bootsgirl
