Because Trumplicans didn’t get vaxed the virus is mutating and getting more difficult to control.

Herd immunity is a statistical concept. And it depends on an unchanging infectious agent. So far, the μ variant seems not to be worse than the δ variant. Note the weasel wording: We don’t really know much yet. But the ν variant might be!

Remember, Lisa: “We WANT them infected!”

That’s the way to herd immunity, right?

    .

And those in need who CANNOT get medical care because the health care resources are overwhelmed by covid infected anti-vaxxers — well, they’re just collateral damage, right Lisa?

The price of “freedom”, right Lisa?

At least 45 districts shut down in-person classes due to COVID-19 cases, affecting more than 40,000 students

Caseloads have left districts scrambling when many have said they have fewer tools at their disposal to combat the spread of the virus.

    https://www.texastribune.org/2021/09/03/texas-covid-school-districts-shut-down/

More Texas students tested positive for COVID-19 last week than at any time last school year

There have been 20,256 reported cases among students across the state since the school year began.

    https://www.texastribune.org/2021/08/27/texas-schools-covid-19-cases/

Republican’s totally neglect Public Health, and now we all have to pay the price.

WHUT? Anti-Vax and Racist FOX News Blames Low Vaccination Rates on Biden and Black Americans

Washington Post reports that “there are about four times as many Republicans as Black people in the ranks of the unvaccinated.” And the vast majority of the unvaccinated population are Republicans and Fox News viewers. An NBC News poll last month found that a whopping 91% of Biden voters are already vaccinated, as compared to only 50% of Trump voters.

Lemme guess: Lisa is suggesting that with the mu variant, the disease “finally” is real.

Probably not a very good guess, though.

Because your Alt-Reich is continuing to refuse vaccinations and wear masks, L. Benson, Covid continues to mutate to new and more transmissible forms. Children are being stricken at increasing rates because of these failures and you make a joke about it? There are words for people like you.

Promoting Ivermectin maybe? 250,000 kids have tested positive so far. Lisa must be proud about the size of that herd.

I am amazed at how many of you don’t understand the point of this cartoon. It is that there may be no immunity against the new Mu variant. Neither vaccines nor past infections from other versions 0f Covid-19 will offer protection. Herd immunity may not be possible.

i heard that we’re now, finally, up to 75% vaccine use, so are we at herd immunity? I think, not is the correct answer. I hope we’re at 75% because more folks have been frightened into getting vaxxed, than that more unvaxxed folks have died.

Even the most vaccinated counties don’t have a high enough percentage of vaccinated to reach herd immunity. We’re not there yet. If only the alt right didn’t make it political, we might be.

Long before COVID-19, scientists understood the transmission cycle and immunity of the four other coronaviruses that are very common causes of respiratory infections in humans. Like other respiratory viruses, such as influenza and RSV, immunity to coronaviruses is also very short-lived – up to nine months at the longest. This why these viruses are considered seasonal and we see spikes in cases every year because the “herd” never develops enough immunity.

Thanks to new research from renowned virologists and epidemiologists, we now know that natural immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus lasts only three to nine months. The reproductive number for COVID-19 is between 2-3. That means that in order to achieve herd immunity to COVID-19, 70 percent of the population would have be to infected every nine months! In other words, it’s impossible to achieve herd immunity to COVID-19 through widespread transmission.

If more people were vaccinated, the virus would have a smaller host population in which to mutate, thus fewer opportunities for dangerous variants to arise. Or, to put it a different way: we will achieve herd immunity, but doing it with vaccines raises the likelihood we do it without catastrophic die-offs and an eviscerated health care system.

None of which matters to selfish idiot deniers, of course.

The only way to achieve herd immunity is to get vaccinated and get the boosters that will become necessary, as much of the world and Republican pockets in the USA. Much of the world it’s more of a financial and logistical issue. Whereas, in USA Republican areas it’s a mental deficiency issue.

Mu is one of the later variants of Covid (likely from South America, like Lambda from Peru and Gamma from Brazil). But I have just found good news from South America concerning Covid. Cases are down considerably in that continent as more people get vaccinated throughout the continent. There is a great push from the industrialized nations to get developing nations vaccinated since the variants are all from developing nations. As for here, over 64% percent of Americans 12 and older have been fully vaccinated against Covid and over 75% have had at least one dose of the vaccine. Delta is expected to recede across this country over the autumn and my hope is strong that the newer variants won’t gain the toehold that Delta had. One unexpected benefit of Delta’s spread (aside from jump starting vaccinations across the country) is that (according to experts) it’s been crowding out the other variants. Apparently even among viruses, there’s such a thing as survival of the fittest. So, hopefully, Delta will be the last major speedbump on the road to normalcy.

Really cute cartoon, Lisa! Love the sound similarity, too.

So, where does a cow get higher education?

Ans: At Moo U., of course. (:

Since the new variants seem to thrive even in heavily vaccinated populations like Israel, we will all just have to continue to be careful until the pandemic runs its course. Logically, the people who rant about overpopulation and want to kill the unborn should be thrilled…
