    It is hard to balance informing of dangers and producing undying fear.

    I used to point out dead animals on the road and explain to my sons nobody killed them on purpose, but they didn’t see them in time so we should all be cautious. We could be walking down a seldom-traveled dirt road and when the older son saw a car a mile away, he kept calling me to get off the road.

    (The younger son had a more laissez-faire attitude.)
