Every organization that has lasted that long MUST have some way for the folks who have less power to still get something resembling satisfaction. Military organizations have ways for lower ranks to get the attention of higher ranks without having to pass through their immediate superiors. Businesses much the same. I think that the Senate’s filibuster is something that works that way. What I would prefer instead of a complete cancellation is a reversion to the old rules in which you had to actually stand up and speak. And speak. And speak. Until you were shut up by cloture, or you could no longer stand. Look up the use of “special undergarments” in that regard, for instance.

How has the filibuster served the public? Does the filibuster serve the public?

the senate is so deformed that I can see a place for the filibuster, when the minority of senators represent the majority of the nation.

It’s here to stay. You’re otherwise asking the Neo-Fascists to put themselves out of business. Good luck with that.

Not so fast Wuerker, the Democrats may need it in the future. Look to history and be careful what you wish for.

With the Delta variant killing unvaccinated Republicans all over the country, by midterm elections the vaccinated Democrats who are left can vote in a filibuster-proof majority.

As long as the rules of the senate, agreed to in the constitution, are set up so that one guy standing in his pasture in Montana’s vote counts the same as all of those in an apartment building in New York City, YES—- the majority of Americans are not represented in the US Senate.

People say it might backfire. That’s the people that haven’t seen the Republicans get rid of it when convenient for them for the past couple of decades.

Best to do it to do good, rather than let the Republicans continue to bust the filibuster to continue their evil goals.

Changes to the filibuster rule are typically called for by Dems who can’t get their insane policies enacted, even when they are in the majority.

Yet they use the filibuster far more often than the GOP does when the GOP controls the Senate.

And then, clowns like Wuerker act like the GOP is the villain, conveniently forgetting that the Dems are true abusers of the system. All the way back before the Civil War.
