I swear the lady I passed yesterday was knitting while her phone was tucked against her shoulder and her cruise control was set at 70. Irritating. BTW, they are Emergency Departments now. :)
I saw a woman putting on her mascara in the rear view mirror while entering a freeway, totally unaware of the fact that the freeway was packed and not moving. She smashed right up the back of my sports car, luckily. It would have been worse had she not reduced the impact that way. Luckily we were all headed in the same direction and her dad drove us to the university.
A person can be a total but well-disguised idiot, and no one notices until he/she gets behind the wheel.
The one I often notice is the driver who apparently knows where he/she is headed and how to get there, but has to include a dodge from a left turn lane, across two central lanes, to reach the right turn lane. Guess that’s the modern equivalent of bungie diving using a rubber band. You gotta have faith. Or really, really good health insurance.
Not so funny, I lost my car in an accident Sunday. Waiting for authorities, tow trucks etc. in a shade less parking lot @ 90F for HOURS, because everyone was running into everyone in the city.
Actual announcement from the pilot’s cabin upon landing at our destination: “You are now safely on the ground in XXXX. The safest part of your journey is over. Good luck the rest of the way.”
Reminded of a comment a state patrol officer made to my wife’s traffic safety class (mandatory for state employees): “SUVs enable you to get stuck in harder places to get you out of.”

(gasp) but that’s AGAINST the LAW!
The worst I ever saw was a person putting on makeup while driving at 65 MPH on a three lane each way freeway.
When you think about it the most surprising thing is that we keep on breeding faster than we can kill ourselves off. So far.
