Well-liked traditions are never easy to replace. Trebek did a fine job. I believe network will need a year or more to find someone even close to his experience and manner. He came from a time of manners and thoughtfulness were considered assets.
It’s difficult to replace an icon. There was the same sort of anxious angst when Sean Connery left the James Bond franchise. It’s almost as if Ronald McDonald is now plugging The Olive Garden. While comparisons are inevitable, they’re also rather pointless as one of the reference points is no longer with us. If you must, compare the new hosts (or hostesses) to each other, or to your own perception or fondness of the program, but not to Alex Trebek.
I just can’t wait for Mayim Bialik’s cutesy, gushing reign-of-terror to be over. Of all those who’ve ever guest-hosted, she’s the only one who felt compelled to start out by telling us just how smart she is…

Who hasn’t? Rumor (thatijustmadeup) has it Mike Tyson is guest-hosting soon. I hope he has lost his taste for human ears. (—

I’m enjoying this guest host period. It feels like a fitting tribute the Alex Trebek. He can’t simply be replaced just like that.

For the most part, the guest hosts have been at worst OK. My favorites are Jennings, Buzzy and Mayim.
