All prior questions asked of these two concerning abortion were “hypothetical” and couldn’t be answered. Now we’ll get answers that won’t be hypothetical and as most people expected.
If ever.. there was a time to add justices to the Supreme Court.. now is the time to do it Joe. Go into this argument with an even hand or the landmark 1973 case of Roe v. Wade is toast.
Over the last five centuries, millions of refugees of religious persecution emigrated to America and continue to this day to emigrate to America to savor religious freedom, particularly as protected by both the Free Expression Clause and the Establishment Clause of our Constitution’s First Amendment.
Now the Trump SCOTUS appointees have decided to gut those clauses, i.e., soon, you may not follow (express) any religious belief that conflicts with the far-right Evangelical Christian tenets du jour vis-à-vis abortion and you must bow to the (de facto established) far-right Evangelical Christian tenets du jour vis-à-vis abortion that outlaw abortion, even though those far-right Evangelical Christian tenets and beliefs are based entirely on a confused and confusing reading of religious tracts written twenty-six centuries ago and based on faith, not science.
The confused and confusing centuries of the reading of various religious tracts and consequent commentaries NEVER agreed on any of the purely religious opinions about abortion, but that is utterly unimportant to the far-right Evangelical Christians who forced the appointment of unqualified justices, e.g., a drunk, a fanatic, to SCOTUS in order to pervert, invalidate, vitiate, and gut the First Amendment.
It’s not only a denial of religious freedom, but also the repeal of democracy and human rights. It cancels more than four centuries of scientific enlightenment in favor of so-called religious certainty, which, because it relies on ‘faith,’ not ‘fact,’ is mere opinion & entirely uncertain.
Ya know, it’s funny how the left/liberals/progressives/Dems get their panties in a wad fighting against ANY restriction on abortions/access, but wail about how anyone that owns a firearms is mentally ill, racist, homophobic, and push so many limitations it’s humorous…….
And the conservatives/right/Republicans want to limit abortions/access and fight for any restrictions on firearms.
Yet, the right to bear arms is enshrined in the Constitution as an individual right…..The Roe v. Wade decision was actually more about privacy and telling the government that they can’t go around telling women what they can’t do because it’s a private “health” decision.
It has been clear for a very long time that the anti-abortion crowd have zero interest in reducing the number of abortions. If they did, we know what reduces abortions already. Easy and ready access to birth control. Education that actually teaches how the body works — BEFORE they’re teens, and more than one half-hearted class. Economic opportunity. THOSE things are proven to reduce abortion rates. But that was never the rightwing’s goal. Their goal is to demonize the vulnerable and whip the radical fringe into a frenzy. It has always been about control.
As it is, the Catholics are divided on the issue. Evangelicals, the religious right and Trumpers of all sorts are the ones that you find holding banners over the highway. All will change that position if they feel they can benefit from that more.
Abortion does not kill babies. It removes fetuses before they are viable.
Abortion saves lives in medical ways and social ways. Abortion allows women to get out of abusive relationships. Abortion allows girls and young women to continue their education. Legal abortion allows women, who are not wealthy, access to a safe procedure.
Making abortion illegal only makes abortion dangerous for the poor and a European vacation for the rich.
Very rarely do any supreme court rulings have any connection to justice or true interruption pf the Constitution, but the prevailing political agenda of the appointing president and the majority of the senate to approve the nomination. The rare exception was Brown vs the Board of Education but even that on is still not fully enforced.
I’m for unlimited birth control availability at any age for any reason and unlimited abortion at any stage for any reason. The world is overpopulated. Please let enlightened people make their own decisions about bringing children into the world. If you don’t want an abortion don’t get one. We’re supposed to have separation of church and state. Keep your antiquated religious opinions/practices to yourself!
As a Christian, I believe that enacting any legislation that is primarily religious in intent, is a violation of the Establishment of State Religion clause of the 1st Amendment. Reason is that you are forcing those who are not of religion to live by YOUR beliefs.
It’s always been that way the wealthy and privileged can keep their privacy and take care of themselves how they see fit but woe and betide the average citizen
Good ole Conservative priorities. Controlling a woman’s health and body is more important than helping Americans in poverty or protecting life from all the gun violence.

We used to have separation of church and state.
Now we have separation of reality and state.

“What is human life?” is the question and when AI takes over, it wont matter. We will all be judged defective, unwanted and disposable.

Yeesh. Just because abortion is legal doesn’t mean you have to have one.

How wonderful. Now all the right wing patriarchs can send their daughters to the back alley abortionist after daddy knocks them up.

Remember when Republicans* were terrified that if a Roman Catholic were elected president, we would be ruled by the Vatican?
