The only turtles you find can find by the side of the road here are snapping turtles. You definitely don’t want to be picking them up, although I have pushed a few to safety.
We cross paths with many in life. When we meet we should enjoy the moment and take that experience on our future paths. It would be nice if we offered each other a good experience. No, really. Not the extra Sunday morning coffee talking.
All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. The terms tortoise and turtle are used differently in different parts of the English speaking world. In the USA, the general usage is turtle for aquatic or marine turtles, and tortoise for land-dwelling turtles. Also, not all water turtles have flippers, though most sea turtles do.
Some water dwellers move back and forth between salt and fresh water, such as Diamondback Terrapins. (Terrapins, yet another turtle term, which in some areas refers to all turtles… but in others only to the Diamondback.)
Then there are the confusingly non-binary turtle/tortoises like American Box Turtles, which exhibit anatomical and behavioral characteristics of both.
I have a Mediterranean Tortoise which I raised from a month-old hatchling. I named him Darwin. He’s a young adult now and will be 14 years old in September.
It looks like a tortoise because it has such a high back/shell. But for the cartoon’s sake, it is a turtle and Wallace has returned the little critter back home. Awww, so nice.
I am sure that the tortoise really enjoyed a break from his routine, but he probably escaped (very slowly I’m sure) from some other owner and should have been taken to the humane society. However, your heart was definitely in the right place…..
In real life, the best thing to to is to just carry the tortoise across the road in the direction it was going and let it go. Taking them anywhere else stresses them out.
This is just beautiful. Wallace is his usual kind self, Spud is smiling, the seagull’s a major participant, the teacher makes it a learning experience. Amelia, for once, isn’t mean. Thanks, Will Henry.

“Why did the turtle cross the road?”
Answer: “She didn’t. She was trying to get from the pond to the Mall to get some of her mall walking miles in.”

This is the sweetest, most life affirming statement I’ve seen in a very long time. Rock on, Wallace!

So similar to Cul-de-Sac today (and many others!) in artistic style and content. The two, genius artists are definitely kindred spirits!
