Given the way evolution (and logic) works, whatever laid THE egg was a “Proto-Chicken” not a chicken, otherwise /it/ would have to have hatched from THE egg. Hence, the Egg had to come first.
I’ve never understood why anyone would even ask this question. Before you can have a fertilized chicken egg; you first have to have a male and female chicken. If you didn’t have a male chicken (Rooster) to fertilize the egg; then all you would have is breakfast.
