What’s a brogans? I’m old, but I still don’t remember those. Please explain.

Pluggers like to study any thesaurus they can find. Amos and Edda hate waiting for them to bring them back!

Could be wrong but I think most pluggers now are of the jeans or Levis generation. The dungarees pluggers have gone the way of Grandpa Amos McCoy.

The Navy issued me some brogans when I worked in a shipyard. Steel insoles, steel toes, steel heels – I think they weighed three pounds each. I had them for almost 30 years.

Dungarees usually have elastic in the waist band. Wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair; Boot Cut for me. Don’t even like the Relaxed Fit – look too baggy.

Maybe it’s regional, or some veterans.

Pluggers in the Northern Atlantic states wear dungarees, in the mid-west overalls and on the Pacific Coast Levis or maybe jeans.

David is right. brogans are, sometimes slightly dressy, work boots. Maybe for going into town on Saturday.

Sounds like regionalisms to me. I have lived in the mid-west, south-west and mid-Atlantic. I have cousins ALL OVER the country. I have 18 first cousins – most of who are old enough to be grand parents and some are great grand parents. Hardly any of them stayed in the “home” state. When we have a family reunion, it is amazing how many different words we hear for the same thing. :o)

When I wear blue jeans, they are the relaxed or comfort fit cut. I hold them up with substantial button-on suspenders. There are special buttons (bachelor/logger buttons) that look like the ones on most blue jeans and you install them with a small hammer. With a waistline like our Plugger today, a belt can not get a safe enough grip to be secure.

    I thought dungarees were overalls.

I guess I’m not that kind of plugger; I wear jeans.

Weirdo’s wore “jeans”, and usually got punched out for it…If you didn’t have greasy Levis and an attitude, there was something wrong with you…I still have my knife…here in my desk….and I am 76 ears old

Dungarees – something I wanted as a child, but I was told “they don’t make them in your size – too fat”. Jeans, on the other hand come in every size – husband and I live in them and I wear my old ripped ones to sleep in.
