I remember when, at the age of 13, I learned about dandruff shampoo. Finally I understood where all the weird flour on my video game magazines had come from…

My daughter is graduating from high school today, 3rd in her class. She’s not competitive when it comes to her grades; she’s friends with both #1 and #2 (AND #4, for that matter), and doesn’t begrudge them their positions. Academics just naturally come easy to her. She’s also the one who congratulates those who may be struggling academically whenever they make strides, as if THEY’RE in the top 10.

Normally, brainy types and bullies are separate species: until they grow up.

I’ve had several bosses who were geniuses:

One, a guy named Louis DeJoy, is just a mean person. He was the CEO of our company and people sucked up to him. Promotion was based on how well you were at ass-kissing..

Another wasn’t too bad, but he had little patience with us mere mortals who could not solve problems as fast as he did.

The third was a narcissistic, compulsive liar who enjoyed setting people against each other to make himself look better. He enjoyed lording his mental superiority over other people. He held a high position in the company so although people talked badly about him behind his back, they sucked up to him in public. I couldn’t stand him so I went head-to-head with him on how he was abusing MY people. I was forthwith banished from the kingdom.

On the other hand, I had two other bosses who were geniuses and they were good bosses.
