While he’s at it Ziggy better tell them that Dr. Richard Kimble did finally catch the one-armed man in The Fugitive.

So that means the aliens are 20 light years away. If they travel at the speed of light. It took 20 years for the TV signal in 1980 to reach their planet. And another 20 years for them to travel here. But Einstein says mass can’t travel that speed! If the aliens could travel one tenth the speed of light, (and that scientifically is pretty darn good), it would take them 10 years to travel 1 ly. So in 40 years they would just get here if they were 4 light years away. But the J.R. TV signal would have to traveled 4 years to get to their planet. Which means The aliens can’t live more than 3.6 light years away. There isn’t actually a star that close.

Yeah, 20 light years at most if you believe all that hokum about the speed of light. It is only a theory, after all.

The Mayor of the real city of Dallas…

During the course of the series, JR was shot by Kristin, (in the "who shot JR plot), Sue Ellen ( though the doctor said he was fine and she must be the worst shot in the state of Texas) and some guy in a train yard in California after John Ross was kidnapped and they all went to rescue him. I suspect that will be the one and only time in my life that knowledge will be relevant to a conversation, but it’s stuck in my brain anyway.

There was an episode of “Futurama” that was similar. Except that series took place 1,000 years into the future and the aliens wanted to know what happened on an episode of “Ally McBeal” because they’d lost the signal somehow. So they had to re-enact the episode to keep the aliens from destroying Earth.

These aliens can come back in ten years. And with their advanced intellect, they can explain to us who killed Laura Palmer.
